Krag 6.5mm

"...on a 6.5mm Krag..." Norwegian? I believe they're the same rifle. There's a Krag forum on Jouster.com. You may want to have a look at the U.S. Krag Rifle disassembly/reassembly page on surplusrifles.com(add the W's) too. The guy says not to take the rear sight apart.

I'm a little past that - the tension spring broke while I was oiling it. I need a new one, but on ebay, all I see are Krag 30-40 springs. I assume the spec shoudl be the same, but it would be a real drag to spend $15 on the wrong spring.

"...would be a real drag to spend $15..." Yep. It's bad enough to have to spend $15 for a spring.
The guys on Jouster will be able to tell you for sure if the sights are the same. Good bunch of knowledgeable guys there. Likely be able to tell you where you might find a spring too.
The two rifle's sights sure look the same to me though.
There's a forum here too. http://www.kragcollectorsassociation.org/
E-Bay is evil. They're rabidly anti-firearm ownership.

I think I found a really cheap solution. I went to Lee Valley and bought two small (1/10" X 5/16") rare earth magnets, and placed them under the moving part of the sight. The thing snappoed down like you wouldn't believe and does not move. Work's really good.

The magnet shouldn't affect the trajectory given that lead and copper are non-ferrous.

Norwegian Krags and US krags are not the same, similar, but not the same.

FYI Norwegian parts sell for a premium in the US. Check this site out...

Wyleekote!! What kind of loads are you using??I have a Norski (bubba'd) and want to hunt deer with it this fall and maybe moose next year. I love both the action(smooth) and the cartridge(6.5x55). I was warned to keeo pressures low as its not as strong as the 30-40US krag.True ???? JITC

The opposite is true - the Norwegian Krag is stronger than the US Krag. Keep pressures to SAAMI for the 6.5x55 and you'll be fine.

I was told the same thing by the guy who sold it to me.
I don't load ammo, but I have a guy here in NS - an Ex british sniper - who does custom loads. He said he's using 20% below maximum - but I have no idea what that means. I'll find out the specs from him and get back to you.

Here's a few pics of my Krag. The buttstcok was cut down, so I rigged up a quick, cheap extension (drilled a couple screws into the butt, wrapped bristol board around it, and poured in body filler), and then hid it with the ammo sleeve. 5 mins and done. The metal lost lost of it's blueing, so I brought that back somewhat too.

I'm guilty of bleeding this thread into "Reloading" - sorry.

I see no need to stay below maximum, nor any reason to be at it, unless that's where the loads are most accurate. As for 20% below maximum, I have no idea what that means either. If it's just taking the published max load and reduce the charge by 20%, that's ill-advised, as doing that, will put you well below published minimums for almost all loads, which are minimum for a reason.
