I have a krag in .308 cal yup .308. It has a single lug bolt which initially concerned me due to pressure. So I took safety precautions and tied it down.
I fired 10 round of factory ammo and found no issues at all.

Question was this a custom rifle or was there a limited factory run in .308 calibre
This rifle has a nickel finish and a new stock (which is badly finished internally and require some work). I am wondering if there could have been a limited run made for parade ground.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Probably a Globe conversation to what they called a model 777. Globe also rechambered others surplus rifles like mausers and svt40s. Your suspicion about the strength of your action is a very valid one. One look through a reloading book to compare 30/40 to 308 will show you the pressure difference between the rounds. If it were me, I'd only entertain the idea of reduced power load through that Krag. Its 40k psi vs 62k psi

I guess it's original caliber was 30/40, therefore an American Krag.

I read somewhere, that a batch of these rifles had incompetent heat treatment, which made the receivers brittle.

It is best to fire such a rifle with reduced loads.

no these conversions where done on Norwegian 6.5x55's. i ve also seen then in 243. the most common conversion ive seen is 6.5x54 Mannlicher Schoenauer, but i dont believe it was globe doing those. ive had a couple of them usually good shooters handy carbine for the bush. the norwegian action is stronger then the Springfield Krag but myself i would still stick to start loads ina .308
