Krag Jorgensen Find

When I picked up my 1912 carbine. It came with a few 15 round wedges that look like this.

It might be a cut-down M1894 Lang-Krag, but realistically it is a repurposed rifle remade into a “Stomperud Krag” They made them from long rifles into a rifle that was the same length as the K98 under German occupation as well as making new receivers/rifles were also made.

“Stomperud Krag”

The mountain carbine has a different stock and the finger grooves ends sooner.

When the Wehrmacht invaded Norway in 1940, the small Norwegian army put up a stiff resistance but was soon overwhelmed by superior numbers and blitzkrieg tactics. To release standard weapons for frontline troops, the Germans issued captured Krags to their occupation troops in Norway. In 1943, Kongsberg assembled a modified Krag carbine for German occupation troops and collaborator Vidkun Quisling's security forces.

Mt. Carbine: Look at the Rear Sight location. About 4 inches from receiver and a 20.5 inch barrel. If you have a wood handguard it is 3 1/4 inches long.
Mine has round handle.
1912 Carbine: Rear Sight at Receiver and about 24 inch barrel. If you have a handguard it will be about 23 inches long.
Mine has round handle, latter model.
The Stomperud: Good one;Yes that is possible. Never see them around these parts. The barrel will be 24 inches long. And should be some Third Reich stamps on barrel or action. A modified 1894 Lang Krag.
1904 Engineer Carbine: Rear sight a tad further forward than the 1895 or 97. 20.5 inch barrel.
I am leaning towards the 1904 Model or the Stomperud right now. If you measure barrel length you will narrow it down.
PS: I have the book The Krag Story by Mallory. And I am restoring 2 Krags for only the past 25 yrs. Almost there!

Thanks for the info guys I am going to take a better look at the metal for the various markings and stamps tonight when I get off work

It has a 22" barrel and the only odd marking is on the left side of the barrel below the rear sight just at the edge of the wood is stamped 44SS

A buddy in high school had a sporterized one in 30-40 Krag.

I asked him whatever happened to that rifle and he couldn't remember.
