Krag rifle info

That's pretty much the rifle I have but yours is complete, with the bluing still on it, mines been well used, same rear sight to boot, I have no real rust whoever had it did maintain it, I'm going to try to get mine like that again but I guess I'll see how she goes, it is a beautiful rifle, it should be an interesting project

You'll like this. One of my favourite rifles. 1898 Springfield Krag made in 1903. Original and unfired as far as I can tell. The walnut and bluing is incredible.
OK, that rifle is obviously the best 1898 I've seen. Please give us some more of the history, where it came from, how did it come to Canada if you know, was this a private purchase or from a dealer, calibre 30-40 I'm assuming, etc etc. Any info on this significant rifle is appreciated.

I imported this gun from the USA maybe 15 years ago. It came from an estate on the east coast. Sadly no more history. I always wanted one for my collection and this was far and away the nicest 1898 I have ever come across. The model is fairly common, but the as new condition was not. I oiled it, and put it away. I don't think the 1898's on display at the Springfield Armory Museum are as nice.

OK, thanks for that anyway. Condition, condition, and condition. Your rifle has all 3.

I can't supply milsurp for you. But I've virgin brass and some old boxes...if you want period correct ammo. Damn that is a fine piece.

Thanks tokguy. I have a Ruger Number 3 in 30/40 Krag as well. But lately I have not been tempted to shoot this Model 1898 for whatever reason. I'd really like to find a well sporterized 1898 Springfield. Importing is probably the only way to go. Maybe if our dollar ever recovers...

I was on gunbroker just the other day and they seem to want a pretty penny, I'm definetly going to shoot mine and see what it does

I scored about 250 Rounds of 30-40 many years ago, about 1/3 is unfired. Normally I hoard it like Scrooge McDuck, but the Shiny milsurp moved me. It is a good old caliber isn't it?

For sure it’s excellent. It will run alongside a 308 Win out of a modern action. Brass can be tough to find but iirc higginson had a bunch of it new red black bag Winchester.

Well, got everything rigged back together, the old gal is complete again, even the hand guard which cost me more then I paid for the rifle lol, if I knew how to post pics I would
