I am happy to report that Krieger is ready to start a production run of the Match barrels for Lee Enfield #4 Mk1 rifles. Furthermore, these will be available in EITHER a true ..303 British chamber, with left hand 5-groove 1:10 rifling OR in 308 Win, with your choice of twist rate

These will match the originals in every external detail, including the bayonet lugs. These will be made from 4140 Chromoly steel, and I would liek to know if the concensus would be to have these supplied pre-parkerized as they to the CM M14 barrels. Bluing will NOT BE A KRIEGER OPTION

Cost will be $500 CDN + usual taxes and shipping.

Krieger has successfuly built several of these now, and the results have been outstanding. Neither Helmut nor I are LE experts, and he has a few gunsmith questions regarding tolearnces. These barrels have an extractor cut, and indexes for the sights thus it is important to have the timing and indexing perfect.

Thise will be short chambered, thus finish reaming will be required to throat the chamber, making these a true match-quality project.

I would like to communicate with an LE gunsmith expert to get an idea tolerances of the different receivers.

When these final issues are nailed down, then we will begin taking orders. We will be restricting the initial order to 15 of each caliber.

If you know you want one, you may send me an email and PLEASE USE "LE BARREL ORDER" in the subject line. I am not going to process payments on these yet, because i want to provide you with a reasonably firm production date first, but once that is fiunalized, pre-payment will be required.

I think if you go over to milsurps.com (link below) and look for a fellow named Peter Laidler you may get the answers to your questions as he knows a thing or two about Enfields.

I’d also post your progress and information in this thread:

Peter has posted in this thread as well.
It’s unfortunate there isn’t a more ready supply of bolt-heads as, once the tolerance is known, the barrels could be finish chambered and the headspace adjusted with the interchangeable bolt-head in the same manner as during new production.

set the headspace to a zero bolt head with a reamer and then you don't have to worry about different bolt head sizes. Also, what is the chamber dimensions, as LE chambers were all cut oversize and the No.3's with SC the barrel behind the rear sight can be way oversize. I'd like to see a print of the chamber reamer and compare it to my custom .303 reamer I had made by Clymer years ago. It might be that you have to have the guys cut the chamber with your action and bolt.

Tagged for interest.
I would be down for a .308
I have a no4 with a cut barell that is a perfect candidate.
I'm going with .308 because of avaliability, and better efficientcy.

As much as I like bluing, and keeping it looking authentic,
I like that it will be parkerized. Better finish, and harder to confuse it with all the .303's.

Soooo, im gonna revive this thread and ask did anything ever develop from this? I understand that ALRB has closed down, but someone else must be able to pick this up?

If Kreiger has done the development work to produce these barrels, perhaps juanvaldez could bring some in.

I am very interested in a 303 barrel. Will these be in the white or blued / phosphate / manganese finish?
No1 or No4 thread orientation? They have the same thread pattern but.....
A No4 Barrel threaded onto a No1 has the sights upside down and the extractor groove is on the wrong side.
