Krg bravo vs MDT Oryx tikka t1x

The XRS is forsure in my budget however, I have read and watched some videos about fitment issues with the XRS and the t1x.

If there were fitment issues, MDT is very quick to update and correct. These are all CNC'ed inletting so any issue is resolved with a bit of updated code. I know cause I helped them update their chassis for a new trigger... it was resolved as soon as Can post delivered the trigger I shipped them.

I would reach out to MDT and ask about any concerns you may have. Remember that the XRS and ORYX will share the same inlett so...

Let me know if I can help with parts and optics. Good luck

Jerry

Out of interest, which factory stock are we dissing here? Tikka seems to sell the T1x in quite a range of different stocks. And if I'm going to buy one, toss the stock across the room calling it a piece of crap, and go order an MDT, then I want to be sure I'm not accidentally maligning a good one.

In North America it's offered in two stocks. The UPR which is a waste of money and the MTR which is exactly the same as the T3X comes in.

The best cheek riser for the T1X is IMO the Kalix Teknik

Wow that looks like a great option actually. I will keep this in mind if for what ever reason I do not go with a stock/chassis option

How about the MDT LSS gen 2 for the t1x over the Oryx?

Good question lol. I simply did not look at that option.

Gobig tactical carries almost all the krg line. Check out what he has in stock. Lots of options to customize your Bravo to your liking

Perfect thanks !!

I’ve had the Bravo and the Oryx. I prefer the Oryx.
The grip on the Oryx is much better IMO. The Bravo has an overly fat grip and its only comfortable in when you are directly behind the rifle. The Oryx is more multi purpose.
The Bravo is also front heavy whereas the Oryx is reasonably balanced.

Honestly, that is my only hesitation with the Bravo is that I am stuck with one grip size. I have small to average mitts lol

Thanks Jerry, I think it was something to do with the recoil lug not making proper contact or something along those lines. I will have to find the video. I agree, MDT could correct that with a simple adjustment the code thus maybe it was an early issue.

I am good so far with optics (Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50) but as I get some more trigger time behind this rifle I will probably swap some parts out. I will keep you guys in mind when looking for any parts !

I am speaking about the stock that comes on the MTR. I held the UPR but was not a fan at all! Personally I chose to save the money and invest it in a stock/chassis I liked later down the road if need be.

The T1X struggles to balance correctly in the light factory stock. Add a heavier one and the balance shifts even further to the rear.

You could fix this with a bunch of weights but the Oryx doesn't accept them and the ones for the Bravo bring the price way up.
Or you can deal with swapping in a heavier barrel. The rifle now costs more than a B14R.

I love my Tikka. It's a fantastic sporter/base class rifle that I've won silhouette and ORPS matches with. I've had it in a chassis for a while too. I own 3 stocks for it, none of them are a chassis style.

Hmm... Maybe I am just not that observant lol I don't really notice any issues with balance. I have been shooting for almost 20 years now but, precision rifle is very new to me. My focus has been on skeet & 3 gun. Over the last year I have had more of a desire to get into some precision rifle shooting.

You mention that after purchasing the T1X and doing a chassis, barrel ext you are now over the cost of a B14R however, were is the downside to that ? From all reports I have read the T1x and the B14R are dam near neck and neck depending who you ask (without any upgrades). Me personally, I don't like the Remington 700 platform so I would opt to go a different route 100% of the time. https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/bergara-vs-t1x.6986478/

I ask this question time after time. If I shoot a $700 rifle, equal to or better than a $1500 rifle, why buy the $1500 rifle ? I bought a Ruger American Ranch 5.56 after the AR ban as I have a metric Sh*T ton of 223 sitting around and mags. After playing with some handloads I have that little rifle printing consistent 0.33-0.40 MOA groups out to 400 yards. I then bought a Tikka T3x Varmint HB that is over twice the price of the Ruger yet, gave me 0 advantage in terms of accuracy. If I were to put one is a chassis or different stock, it would be the Ruger, not the Tikka

If the Tikka T1x gives you the performance you want, why not toss some more money at it to customize it further ?

My B14R groups half the size at 100 and it has an absolutely perfect cold bore shot.
Now I haven't gone exotic on ammo for either one but I also don't want to be stuck with that one unicorn lot of $30/box ammo either.

With the Tikka you are limited in trigger options. I prefer 2 stage, the Timney is crap and the KRG is very expensive to find out it's also not great.
This is also part of why I don't mess with the 457 platform.
Swapping barrels on a T1X is problematic. Mine shoots well enough to clear most ORPS stages and shoot occasional AAA silhouette scores. But it's just inconsistent enough that I will drop the occasional point on both and I'm at a level where I don't want that from my equipment.

If you are getting into PRS stick with base class. The Tikka is perfect for it.

Upgraded my bolt action to an MDT ORYX stock best upgrade I have made to date! Transforms the entire platform love the rigidity, pistol grip, stock riser, and most of all the inexpensive steel and poly magazines, nice to only spend 40.00 at Cabelas on spare readily available magazines.

I will never go back to cheap d to a horrible stock and making excuses.

Paige at MDT is awesome, incredible customer service without the cross border shipping crap, plus they are Canadian!

I've held the UPR too and it felt fine.

I'm not entirely a fan of modern chassis systems. Too much like a bunch of mechanical parts in close formation with a few strategic padded bits tacked on. All efficient functionality with no aesthetics. Too much to snag and catch things. And the tacticool black-rifle thing feels like a magnet for negative attention in today's Canada. I'll admit it, I still have a fond weakness for traditional wood. And the McMillan stocks CF snipers used to set world records certainly had to be the right stuff, and the UPR seems to fit in that family.

Also, stock style is one of the big variables affected by the game you're playing, whether PRS or precision or hunting or Mapleseed, and there's the chance that if you figure out the right barreled action and put quality glass up top you can relatively easily swap stocks based on where you're going today.

I have ZERO interest in competition. I enjoy going out to the range or woods and doing my thing. I don't care for any type of events and honestly don't have the time for it even if I did. I used to shoot competitively but it became too much. I work straight nights and have a new family member.

I've owned the oryx, LSS RF, XRS and bravo. All do the job. Between the bravo and XRX the drs wins for solid feel . It's very sleek. however the bravo is no slouch and feels good too and looks like a Sako TRG! Just a bit beefier and a different feel to the polymer than MDT stuff.

The oryx is great for it's long flat bottom forend and it's basically one solid block of aluminum. and the LSS just feels like solid quality despite the low price.

Any option is gold but for shooting from a bench I'd prefer the XRS or bravo just because of the traditional style stock I find d is better with a rear bag. Nothing a bag rider wont solve. If I was out in the woods it would be the LSS.

No point in a chassis then. They are specific to PRS.
