Krieger Barrels

Another thing people dont understand that excessively lapping to both the bolt and recievier it can lead to premature failure of the bolt or reciever because the heatreating is only .005-.010 in depth remove to much you are now exposing the bolt or reciever in the lapped areas to the untreated metal. In a very short time you will have excessive headspacing issue occuring

Aloha Barney and Wayne,

that's a good post to add, I once tried to sell a guy a used (barely) GI bolt that would fit his receiver and barrel combo with a minimum of of lapping. He insisted on buying a new TRW bolt that I had ($275) and weeks later asked me if lapping it for many hours of the course of a week was too much :eek:

I was very sad.....and I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him firing that thing !!!

By all means go and have one imported... Mark at Questar can help, but be prepared to spend lots and lots of money. They are great and someone on the board has an LRB receiver. You will build up a great rifle, but it might not outshoot a box stock HBAR AR15 Colt at one of my Service Rifle matches :nest:

I like the AR platform, sold a nice lilja barrelled, jewell trigger etc etc to Catwork sometime back, but was hoping for a tack driving semi thats not restricted:) I know all your guys have a hard-on for the Peoples Republic of China, but I'm not one of them.:p

First thing you need to do is find an LRB for sale. Currently its a 10-12 month wait for a new one

I was lucky enough to find one for sale on the M14firing line and I should have my hands on it in a few weeks. I wanted an LRB M25 since it was first talked about for the reason that you don't have to mess with scope mounts anymore and the fact that its not Chinese either. I love my stick but the fact that its made over there pisses me off as well.

Call up the guys at Questar and they'll help you out. I've got a Kreiger barrel waiting mate up with it as well

Assuming everything else is right what sort of accuracy can be expected with a Krieger?

mine shoots like a lazer beam....... 5 in under an inch at a hundred anyways but i have not taken her out for an "honest" day of checking groups.
definately as accurate as some of my very accurate bolt guns. but we will see with proper 10 round groups at 100/200 and 300 yards.

All I can say is that the Krieger will out shoot many NM barrels because of the time, energy, and sweat put into the manufacturing process. You truly will receive what you pay for. Kriegers have a reputation for accuracy, consistency, stress relief, lapping, smoothness, and all the characteristics common to a superb barrel.

At least once before I leave this planet (read: I'm not going to live forever like Elvis) I would like to own a Krieger barrel on any of my M700 or M14's. All I have experienced are Douglas NM Heavy barrels on many of my M14's and they shot into dime sized groups at both 100m and 200m, just ask Skullboy. I built one for him back in 1993 and he showed me centerpunched .38 Spl cases shot at 200m.

Hmmmmm maybe I smell an idea ... It might be time , when I can no longer carry out the rundowns in Service Rifle (I've already got 2 hip replacements) to build up a Norinco M14 with a Krieger JUST to shoot iron sighted Target Rifle class. I can dig up an NRA shooting jacket, just like when I started out back in 1985 with NRA High Power. :ninja:

Peace out!

You can do it Hungry :D
you know that ringing in your ears......... it's the "ping" travelling down that m14 Krieger barrel........ that's calling out to you "Hungry..... without a krieger barrel your #### is sure to fall off" LOL

I had two...... now after today.... I am down to one and she is my precious hehehe

Don't waste your one time Krieger on a Rem 700...Been there done that. Just another great barrel is all....Ted Gaillard and his like will more than do justice here.

Now a super accurate M-14 is another matter!
Accurate M-14's add years to your life....I also hear it adds lube to the hips! LOL!

Tomorrow is never guaranteed.
Cease the day!

It's nice to talk about putting in a usgi bolt, unfortunately they are virtually impossible to find (legally) and most of us are starting to consider using a stock bolt out of sheer desperation. I would love to build a better shooting gun, but the bolt is the biggest stumbling block. If one does come up on the EE, it only lasts a couple of minutes, you have to actually online or you're out of luck.

they (usgi bolts) are not impossible to find.... it's all in how you go about looking for them. I've found maybe 2 just buying them seperate form guys..... the other 16 i have owned over the past 13 months have all come from complete 12(3) prohibs, purchased just for the parts.

put an add in local buy nsell paper, canadian access to firearms.... and of course here on cgn.
Only 5 of the prohib parts rifles i have bought came from this site, by putting an add in the EE. I have a buddy who is capable of taking delivery of 12(3) rifles..... I show up with my tools...... done like dinner

so.... get resourceful..... there are loads of 12(3) m14 safe queens and with the southern turn to the economy i would imagine a few guys may be looking to offload.

as far as short chambered barrels go...... my reamer cuts not only the chamber and neck but also sets up the proper throat dimension..... so just screwing on a short chamber to your norc is NOT the proper way to do things.
don't waste yer money on a fine barrel without first sourceing a bolt that will be compatable with the finished product.

Incidentally in many of the norc rifles i have installed usgi bolts into for fellow m14 nuts, 99% used thier original norc barrel, achieved match .308 headspace, and thier rifles are more accurate than they can shoot. I'd go this route, shoot your rifle.... and THEN decide if a barrel such as a krieger is even necessary for your build.
