trying to decide which barrel would be better.i believe krieger is cut and shilen are button rifled(?)
are cut rifling barrels better, or is it just different?
i understand the points about stress, but are button rifled barrels truely stress-relieved?
which would you choose and why?

Both barrel-manufacturing methods are satisfactory and will give comparable results if done to the correct, uniform tolerances. Personally, I would chose a cut rifle barrels just because some smiths I admire have produced great (accurate) rifles with them and they feel they distort less with the heat from consecutive shots (subjective I know). I chose a cut rifle barrel (Mike Rock .30 cal blank) for my last build and am very satisfied. Good luck with your build!

They both are used in the most accurate game of Benchrest competition and they both do well.

If they both make the caliber, twist and contour you want it's a toss up...

Shilen stainless are factory hand lapped.
Shilen Chrome moly are not factory hand lapped unless special ordered.

What a difference that makes in my rifles!

I have a number of Krieger barrels, but I have not installed them yet.
They look very good.
