Hello,

I am just starting a 308 build with juanvaldez. Originally I was thinking a Krieger barrel, but due to availability he suggested the Broughton barrels. I have been doing some reading on them, but was just looking for some members thoughts. Thanks

The folks at Bartlein and Broughton used to work for Kreiger before going out on their own.

I have a Broughton on order with Sean and am looking forward to see how they perform for me.

Broughton, Brux, Bartlein and Kreiger are the 4 main players in F-Class barrels in the US.

We have been approved as a Bartlien dealer are doing paperwork. Check BR and American FClass and Palma results. With the demise of Adams Lake and Robertson, others. We have moved to enter this market and plan to extensively stock Krieger and Bartlien. Of course this may change, as we have been advised that these two are not on good terms.

Ted Gaillard makes great barrels also, as does McLennan, who also now makes cut-rifled 30 cal. Don't have experience with Smith.

Regards,

Peter

Or buy local and get Ted Gaillard, Ron Smith or Mick McPhee(?). All make barrels as good or better than the Americans, and all are made in Canada

Hey, that is great info. I didn't know about those companies. I bought my first quality barrel from Adam's Lake Rifle Barrels (a Krieger barrel), I have no complaints, but definitely will consider these barrels next time.

I've been running one of each for the last 2 years in 308win. Completely interchangeable thanks to a superior gunsmith. Bottom line...I can't tell the difference in accuracy between the two. Both companies offer high quality products.

Have Roberstons closed the doors permanently?
Which two are not in good terms with who?

No sense ordering any barrels if there's problems then.

more info

the 2 barrel makers do not really alike it if a company carries both, they may or may not be candid with you but the shipping times may slowwwwwwwww

hint hint this I know from a couple of USA dealers,

and yes robertson composites INC. is closed, bankruptcy is pretty much done, a husband and wife shooter bought the assets, it will be up and running by spring, not sure on the location yet, or even if it will be left in Canada,

This is getting weirder by the day.
Plans to build guns with stocks, barrels and actions this winter now being shelved.

I'll guess I'll stay with Rob McLennan for my barrels as I never have to put my money up front until it's ready to ship. Does Ted Gaillard want all the money first when you order a barrel. I heard Mick doesn't sell his .30 barrels unless he installs them. Has that changed?

I am using both a Krieger 1-7.5 twist 6mm and a Broughton 1-8 twist 6mm on my 6 Dasher and Both Barrels are Extremely accurate. I seem to go to the Broughton for the close up shooting and the Krieger for the LR stuff. I'm sure this has to do with Barrel twist more than anything though. If I were to have to choose between the two, I would buy the one that was available first.

Oh and one last note. Broughton claims that the 5C barrel MAY help to increase velocity and is less likely to foul...I find the Krieger gives me more velocity and cleans up much faster. My 2 pennies

I'll be going with a Gaillard barrel on my next build. My Shilen took about 9 months and it's just too long for an impatient guy like me. Ted's within driving distance so I wouldn't even have to wait at the post office.
