Even by that standard the Basque guns are still a bargain. The very upper reaches of the Spanish guns might cost you $20,000 while the English guns will set you back $100,000 and more. There are perfectly acceptable Spanish sidelocks in the $5,000-$7,500 range that are excellent value IMHO.

What the Spanish have done is assume the market position of the various second tier UK makers who have since gone by the wayside. Boss, Purdey, H&H all still command astronomical prices but there isn't much in the UK in the way of afforable sxs. Is it any wonder that AyA is one of the top selling brands in the UK?

The real bargains in the UK are used boxlocks, especially the non-ejectors. They can be had in excellent condition for the price of a Spanish gun.

A fella at my club shoots a Krieghoff K-80 trap that ran him around 18K.

It is so nice that you would really have to feel it in your hands and shoot it to understand. Amazing.

Now I have also shot a Perazzi that did not cost as much ( still around 10K ??)
and felt just as good or better. One day....one day. For now my Browning XT trap is doing just fine.

Even Purdey has tacitly admitted that. They now only offer a single non-selective trigger on their guns. I can't imagine the fury of spending that much on a gun only to have to get an aftermarket trigger installed.

I'd like to think that the original owner bought himself a Fabbri. That's what I'd do if I were in that bracket.
