Jon Shoop at C & S Metall-Werkes has alerted me that the NEW version of their Krinker Plinker conversion kit is now available:

NEW Krinker Plinker 8" kit:

Looks like they have replaced the previous wire stock, with an authentic AK-74U stock... Cool!...

The New Krinker Kit now turns a Ruger 10/22 into pretty much a dead ringer for a real Krinkov.

I understand that C&S is bringing on a Canadian disti / importer in 2006 (possibly Questar ?)
The retail price of the new kit in the 'States is US$295; not sure how much they will be on this side of the border.

One more thing, does the 8" barrel make it restricted? Why/Why not?

It's complicated. In theory, you won't get the 8 inch barrel imported anyway, as it's for a rifle. Assuming you could.....

If the reciever is already registered as non-restricted, you have to maintain the 26 inch OAL measurement. In that case, either the stock has to be fixed in the open position, or keep the longer barrel.

If you are also importing a virgin reciever, you could have it registered as restricted and install the folding stock.

The barrel is legal on this side of the border as long as it isn't cut down ON THIS SIDE OF THE BORDER. If it's imported at that lenght, it seems to be kosher. If it's made here, you need a licenced manufacturer to make the sub 18.5 inch barrel.

Canuck223 is correct... For rimfire; I don't think there is any barrel length restriction... Barrel can be as short as you want and still be non-restricted, as long as the overall length is 26" or more.

Though I don't think importing an 8" barrel is a problem; many similar kits have been imported and registered over the past year.

State Department don't make a habit of allowing the export of guns or kits to create guns that would be NFA items in the US.

Be happy that your permits were approved. By all means apply for more.

####. I've got the gen 2. Maybe they'd sell me just the stock?

Answered my own question. He said to give him a couple months and he'll put together some type of kit for us 1st and 2nd genners. Booya.

The previous generation (of the 8" barrel kit) was reportedly >26", provided you had C&S weld the folder open and the brake on.

I suspect the same will be true with this generation, though I don't know that for sure.

A comparison of the Krinker (top) versus a real Krinkov:

The photos may not be exactly to the same scale.

Heard from Mark at Questar today:

Turns out that Canuck223 was right about the difficulty of getting the 8" barrel version.... the word is that the US State Department will no longer approve export of barrels under 16".

Questar is going to bring in the silly-lookin' 16" fake-silencer version... ugh...

As long as the stupid fake 'can' can be taken off that would be fine. It might look silly to have a really long barrel on it but I'd prefer it to the fake silencer.

And the plus side is, the long barrel can be a folder right?? :D

The new stock looks way better. I wonder, though, could you get then stock welded open the get a gunsmith to cut down/thread the barrel/install flash hider here in Canada? Would C&S ship the flash hider with the 16" kit.....I'm sure it'd end up costing more than it's really worth, but what's the point of having a supressor look-alike if it still makes the same ammount of noise :s

To my eye the longer version has a more balanced look and with a 16" barrel the folder will probably be fine for overall length.

Is this upgrade kit legal in Canada?. If this is my Akt-98 should be allowed in. I love the look of this kit. If it's legal I may have to get one when they come in.
