kroil

... One that's similar, and available at most Automotive Suppliers, is " Marvel Mystery Oil" ..... snake oil? Maybe, but it smells not bad and works fairly well to loosen rusted parts, and I've even used it to clean rifles. ( Comes is red plastic bottle, like a 1L oil container ) .... David K.

where can i find kroil penetrating oil in canada ? to clean barell that have been shoot with moly-coate bullets

I read somewhere that Kano Labs (manufacturers of Kroil) only have two or three Canadian distributors, all "in the West." These people: ww w.enviropluslubrication.com in Alberta apparently have it.

Is there not perhaps a gunshop in Québec City that might have it? That'd be about the closest to you. You might also find it at an industrial hardware store (not Acklands-Grainger, however. They don't show it in their catalogue.) Or possibly some automotive supply stores.

If all else fais, contact Kano Labs and ask them who carries it in Canada. It's an excellent product but a bit difficult to find in this country, at least at the "retail" level.

try a mix of Kroil and Ballistol, seems to work even better as a lube/cleaner/penetrater

It is/was not supposed to be shipped into Canada when I tried ordering a few years ago. A few small shops seem to get it in, probably brought up privately.

If you can't find it in Canada, buy a big can the next time you travel down to Bangor, Maine.

Any decent hardware store there should have it.

I used to buy mine in Bellingham, WA when I lived in the Vancouver area.

When I moved away, I bought one of those huge cans of Kroil and a bunch of spray bottles of Corrosion X.

Le me guess- at Hardware Sales on James St.? I saw gallon tins of it there last weekend. There isn't much that place doesn't have. Fortunately my girlfriend lives in Bellingham so I have far too many opportunities to drop in.

That's the place!:)

I got the Corrosion X there too. It is in the same section and it comes in a pump spray bottle (there are other sizes too.)

Cheers!

p&d in edmonton is where I bought mine and I know that it is not supposed to be a copper remover, but I have to tell everyone that I have noticed a definate reduction in time when I goe to the copper removal stage in my bores. I wrap a patch on my bronze brush soaked in kroil and give a few strokes. a couple dry patches, and then when I go to the sweets or robla solo, it seems like i'm done in no time at all. I don't know whats in that stuff, but it seems to greatly reduce my copper time.

Kroil is supposed to be a Kerosene and oil mix. Another popular penetrating oil DIY mix is Acetone and Atf 50/50 mix.

According to the MSDS (https://secure.cnchost.com/kanolabs.com//msds/kroil_liquid.pdf) Kroil contains "30-50% each of Severely hydrotreated petroleum distillates and light petroleum distillates, plus small amounts of aliphatic alcohols and glycol ether and some proprietary ingredients."

I'm sure that was immeasurably helpful to all the chemists on CGN.
