you have used it, but what do you think of it??

As for acrylic, can you point me closer to the right direction where to get it, what brand, etc?

I am wanting a flat flat finish, much like the finish that is already on the HS precision stock that the rifle comes with.

Ok, i was looking at tremclad just yesterday at wallyworld..

I just want to find the right colour. I"m not sure tremclad comes in the right tones.

And you are referring to the tremclad spray correct?

I just want to make sure i'm using the right material before I go covering up my precious rifle.

Bugger.. tremclad doesn't have a website.. are they a subsidiary of another company?

Yup! Tremclad rust paint. Because it is designed to "Go right on, over the rust" it has extremely high bonding properties. I have done half a dozen stocks with it recently....excellent. The secret is to ONLY use matte (Highest bond) and to apply extremely light coats for the first 4-5....just a misting really. It gives the final coats lots of teeth. One alternative to try before you paint it, and you are gonna think I'm nuts but......

If the stock is plastic, try and dye it first. Seriously...go to walmart and buy Rit fabric dye. Mix it twice as strong as recomended, and boil your stock in it.

I've done a bunch of polymer gun frames with this method, and I swear to God...I cannot scratch the colour off, even when I work at it. A screwdriver gouge doesnt even show the original colour! And hey...if it doesnt work or look right....you paint over it! For 2 bucks a pkg (X2) it's worth a shot.

Never would've thought of 'dying' the stock, but that's a good idea. How well do the colors turn out? Can you get deep colors or are they pretty pale?

Well, I drove all over town today and stopped at four locations, eventually I got to Crappy Tire and I couldn't find any tremclad that was the right color or finish, but they did have the Krylon camo paint in Olive Drab. I really doubt that it is all that different than tremclad anyway so I bought it. I'll give it the same treatment that wrong way recommended and will see how it works. I'll probably do some test runs on something else though first.

Depending on the stock....VERY well!

I dyed a bright (As in lemon) yellow MP661K baikal to jet black just recently. It works so well that I always try to dye before painting....like I said, if it screws up....you're painting it anyway.

Cheers,
