For some types of paint a hot air paint stripper will work. CT has them for under $50 I think.
Most solvents and paint thinners will also melt plastic.
Laquer thinner is just bassically toluene or xylene mixed with MEK and methanol or isopropal alcohol.
Nothing wrong with re-using MEK exposed to air, ketones will absorb moisture out of the air but the small amount will not hurt anything.
A product called "goof off" works pretty well on some paints as well (great on crayons on walls or stickers on fridges, just ask my wife)
