Who’s all runnin one? What’s the good and bad? Putting together my PRS rifle for next year. Looking at this or a Defiance Tenacity. I like the fact that the KS action is a 3 lug with 60 degree throw, but the Defiance is priced a tad lower and obviously a well established company. I’ve read good things about the KS barrels, and will be running their pipe for this build no matter what. Just can’t seem to find good info/reviews on their actions. Thanks

They recently built me a barrelled action on their LAR 3 lug action. Several people had great things to say when I was asking about a few different actions. I’m super happy with it, fit and finish is very nice, and it’s super smooth. You can tell tolerances are tightened up and it feels solid.

Have you asked for a price match ? Your are going to use there barrel - I bet for BRAGGING rights they would like it attached to their action ! JMO RJ

I should add that a tad lower is like just shy of $400 tax in. Im not trying to sound like a cheap pr**k but is the KS Action going to make me shoot better? Probably not. But if the quality is there and its ahead of the Tenacity I have no issues spending the extra money.

I want to support the Canadian builders as much as I can, but at $400 less thats damn near my barrel. Or brass/dies etc etc.

Seems that you're comparing the price of an uncoated 2-lug stainless Tenacity with a 3-lug, nitrided KS SAR. Not an apples to apples comparison IMO.
A nitrided Tenacity is $1525 at GBT, which is $125 more than a 2-lug KS Wolverine (nitrided from factory), and only $125 less than a SAR. The coated 2-lug Wolverine is only ~$50 more than an uncoated stainless Tenacity.
The 2-lug KS actions have gotten high praise on this forum, but I haven't heard anything about their 3 lug SAR. Based on the stories I've heard of KS' high attention to detail, I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of their actions.

As mentioned, not really comparing apples to apples. One is a 3 lug and the other is a 2 lug. I have an Impact (2 lug 90 degree) and a Terminus (3 lug 60 degree). Both are awesome but different. The Impact is really light on open and close. The Terminus is noticeably heavier on open but very light on close. Another consideration is feeding, 3 lugs can be fussier on feeding, you dont mention caliber but if it is for PRS I'm guessing one of the 6mm's? From memory some of the shorter 6mm BR type cartridges could be hit or miss.

I picked up a Terminus 3 lug 60 degree as it has the quick change feature but the KS was pretty appealing to me. By all accounts KS makes top line hardware. I came across someone on SH that had both and they were of the opinion that the KS had a slight edge but they too really liked the quick change feature (even if you dont plan to change calibers it makes cleaning a breeze).

In your situation if the caliber you are looking at can feed reliably from a 60 degree 3 lug I would go with the KS.

I guess its not apples to apples, but at the end of the day, to me, an action is an action. I have no preference to 3 lug vs 2 lug, coated vs non coated etc.

I want something lighter bolt lift after firing, something smooth and something reliable. And someone with good customer service. Ive yet to hear a bad thing about Defiance Customer service and speaking to Mike on the phone at KS they seemed quite good as well.

This will be my first custom action so I have nothing to compare it to either. Ive ran factory actions my whole life and just taking the plunge into this now.

It will either be a 6 BR/BRA or 6 Dasher.

Get the two lug then.

Ok so NO ! you didn’t ask Karl or ?for a price match or discount ? ok Then - maybe there 2 lug action is the way to Go . RJ

I have a ks sar, and while I don’t have a defiance tenacity I do have the deviant. While two different actions they are both great. The ks is fantastic. There barrels are killer, tbere service is great, and the action is buttery smooth, rock solid and lighter bolt lift then my terminus. You won’t be disappointed going with a ks action.

I have an itch to build a dedicated F Class rifle and the KS actions are top of the potential list right now.

I think this is the sensible choice if going the BR route.

I built a 6BR and went with a 2 lug to ensure it fed reliably (which is does - using MDT 6BR mags with the new style internals)

I shoot 6BR Norma with an Archimedes and the MDT mags (old style) without issue. To the point where when they reached out to me to offer the upgraded spring and follower, I told them thanks but not to bother. I wasn't messing with a good thing for the sake of messing with it. That being said, my J Allen chassis has provisions to tune mag height and angle, so that could be why they run so well.

interesting.

My mags came with the old style internals and they were pretty temperamental around feeding (less than perfect for sure).

When MDT contacted me and offered to send me the new internals I jumped at it and they are miles better - zero feeding issues now.

The Archimedes is CRF, maybe that helps mitigate issues compared to push-feed actions?
I didn't want to risk having feed issues, and went 6GT over a 6BRA with my build. No complaints, feeds perfectly from all my normal AICS mags. But my Origin is CRF too.

From what I have read that is one of the biggest attractions of the 6GT, its size / shape means it will feed reliably. The shorter BR based cartridges (while awesome in my experience) can be more fickle about feeding.

Never used a CRF but maybe that helps?
