Hey guys. A good buddy is seriously considering having KS Arms build him a rifle with their components and a Wildcat Composites stock. I have never built a custom myself, but know people who have had them build their guns. He is a small business owner from Alberta and the idea of supporting the same during these times appeals to him also.

If you have had them build anything for you, would you take a moment to chime in what you had them do, and how it turned out. It would be appreciated a great deal.

Thanks fellas for your time and have a great day!

I have several KS Arms barrels and one of their Wolverine (2 lug short action repeater) actions. Also have a couple of Wildcat Composite stocks, one of which was designed by KS Arms. Workmanship, components and service are top notch.

While I have not had any of their components or Wildcat Composites stocks done, I have had a barrel done by them. It was my first such project - they were excellent walking me through all the options and talking out details. It was a complex project which required quite a bit or manual milling and contouring in the chamber area since it was unorthodox. I was very happy with the workmanship and turnaround time with everything involved. Great folks to deal with.

They did a barrel install for me [Vanguard 375 Ruger] excellent communication and they did exactly what they said they were going to do in the time they said they were going to take, and for the price they quoted. I am just waiting for some truck repairs to get done and them I am sending them another rifle. In comparison I have had a couple of other shops that did not even stamp the barrel and were always late, one estimated 8-12 weeks and when I phoned to check at 13 weeks and they had not even started the fellow I spoke to argued with me and told me they were right on schedule.

I recently had KS do a barrel for me. Finally got around to building a lightweight 35Whelen on a 700 action. Rifle turned out beautiful and accurate. I went with a KS #2 contour, 12 inch twist, and finished at 22 inches. Mike did great work. I dropped it into a McMillan Edge. I have not bothered to glass bed as I do not believe I can get any more accurate than it already is. After bore sighting, the first two rounds overlapped on paper. One scope adjustment and every grouping chews out one small cloverleaf with 200 grain loads. The 250 grain loads are only a half inch lower than 200s at 200 metres and two inches lower at 300 metres. Phenomenal barrel, very pleased with their work.

As for the Wildcat stocks, I do not have one, but I have had them in hand. A buddy has a couple of custom builds using Wildcat lightweights stocks. They feel nice.

I am considering pulling a Model Seven I currently have listed on the Exchange and having KS build an 18 inch 6.5 or a 308, also with a #2 contour and a tight twist, then drop it into a Wildcat stock.

Multiple builds, rebarrelling, custom profiles, customs bases, etc etc. All are really great.
Only one stock, which was a wildcat, that K&S modified heavily, super sweet.

Well, I'm the one who was interested in doing the build, and I've decided to go ahead and do it. Got a quote back, and it seems very fair for what I will be getting. Going to proceed with it.

I will be getting this in .338 Federal. For some reason, I have wanted a rifle chambered in that since Federal and Sako introduced it. For the hunting I do (nothing over 300 m, mostly 50-200m) it just seems like it will cover all the bases. I've currently got a beautiful 7mm08 that has been my go to for a while, as well as a 7mm RM and a 300 WM, all factory Remington 700s of one type or another. So I wanted something less vanilla, that wouldn't punish me (arthritis in both shoulders now), but still had good smack and would be versatile enough for all my hunting requirement. The .338 Federal seems to check off all the boxes perfectly, and I like a short action.

I just think that .338 will be the cats meow for me, plenty of thump for elk, moose, deer or bear. So, I'm a grown man and I can afford to treat myself to what I want!

The only question mark for me is 22" or 24" barrel. I'm leaning to 22" currently but an extra 50 fps with a 24" is worth considering. All my Remingtons are 24", and the short action 7mm08 handles and balance pretty good. Thoughts?

Add me to the satisfied customer list. Fine tuned my deer load today and put 5 into 3” at 500 yards. 150 sciroccos out of a KS barreled 28 nosler.

I Shoot a Tikka T3 SS Lite with the 22.5 " Barrel - I LOVE the 338 Fed cartridge - I think the 22 " is a Great all around lenght - I'm shooting 160TTSX bullets now at 2960 FPS which is QUITE amazing out of that little cartridge - I'm gonna maybe move up to 185 TTSX and see how they do for accuracy and speed !
What bullet - weight do you plan on Hunting with ? RJ

I'm going to see what it likes, but lean towards 200 gr TTSX. But I will be trying 180 Accubonds and 185 TTSX as well. Nothing carved in stone, first I need to get it built.

They Run 160-185-210 in TTSX - You cannot shoot a 210 FAST enough in my opinion ! I have got 200 gr Accubonds to 2700 fps ! The Accubond's are Great bullets too - RJ

Right you are, I was thinking 200 gr because of the Federal Trophy Copper and also their Trophy Bonded. And I suspect lighter is better for copper with that cartridge. I've got a few boxes of .338 on the way to try, and then I will have once fired brass (180 gr Accubonds Fed Premium, 200 gr Power Shock and 200 gr Fusion). Those will give me an idea what direction to go, and then will chose corresponding bullets for reloading.
