ksg or 870

Always wanted a pump shotty and i'm seeing alot of ksg's turning up on the ee and was wondering if they are worth the money or would i be better to save my money and get an 870 or 590?

Very different animals. I run both (remmy & KSG) .. no issues with either. It's a matter of preference and budget.

Not that bad & this should definitely NOT be a deal breaker.Certainly takes some practice at first but you soon develop a smooth procedure for reloading fairly quickly.

If you need to speed load 870 is better. If your pre loaded and thats it..... KSG will do the job.

Nothing wrong with a good 870(Wingmaster receiver) or a 590(A1). I think the novelty of a mega mag KSG is wearing off so they're starting showing up in the EE in numbers. Besides, it gets costly blasting away with SG shells....

Personally, I'd vote for the 590A1. I prefer the ergo's and shoot & re-load on the fly.

I have yet to see people compete with a KSG... 870/Versa Max on the other hand...

I have seen it. They cursed and swore as the course of fire required a lot of reloads.

two totally different guns... I owned both, I orderd the KSG without touching it, as soon as I tried to shoulder it, it just didn't feel right and put it up for sale the day after it arrived to me. Had an 870 Wingmaster and it was awesome, shouldered just right for me, felt awesome. if something isn't being used, it goes up for sale... just didn't have use for a pump at the time, needed funds for other toys.
If I have need for another, it will be another 870

KSG is my choice. But, I would go and play with one for a bit before you commit to one.

The wingmaster is an 870, but the finishing and q/c is a bit better.

IMO, go with the 870 / Wingmaster. The KSG is purpose built for only one role. It does that one very well, but lacks flexibility.

For the cost of a KSG you can have a used 870 with two or three barrels, a scope, rig and 200 - 300 rounds. Shoot trap, launch flares, plant rifled slugs at 150m. Can even get a muzzle loader barrel! KSG won't do that.

I also vote outside the box, 590A1, it is a better shotgun than both, and cheap with excellent features right from the factory.

My vote is 870. It's been around forever, has tons of aftermarket and is truly reliable. Don't get me wrong, I like the ksg, and it is on my hit list of stuff to buy. However if I could only have 1 shotgun, it's the 870. There is a reason why police agencies around the world still use it
