A while back, my wife bought two Ruger NM Blackhawks in .44 Spl. from Ellwood Epps. I liked them so much, I ordered one - no dice. The other two were snapped up ASAP!
So, I ordered a NM Blackhawk in .45 LC after I was assured by an employee at Epps that it was on the same size frame as the .44 Spl. I asked for pictures - wrong! It was on the old .44 size frame, same as my Vaqueros.

In the process, it turned out I had let my long term ATT expire, so the sale was null & void in any case. I 'back ordered' a Blackhawk in .44 Spl., the requisite 1/3 down applying.
Then my VISA bill arrived showing a debit in full - for the .45LC. I called Epps accounting and got it straightened out. But - I was told that a 10%'restocking fee' would apply. I pointed out that this would be the 3rd gun purchased from Epps in a short time by my wife or me and asked for that fee to be waived. Afterall, the gun had not physically moved from inventory and was back on their web site.

It was! I thanked the lady and told her that we looked forward to future purchases due to their good customer relations.

Great people to deal with ,honest and forthright! I ordered a old SXS 410cal shotgun and it did not show up in 3 weeks, so I phoned and was told to hang up and they would phone me back to save my long distance fee! they found the packaged gun put to the side by mistake, so told me next gun I would get a good price! They were a company that kept its word, A++, cheers Dale in T-Bay

Greetings,

I agree, I will always go to Ellwoods first for firearms purchases of any kind. I have bought many guns from them over the years and have never been dissapointed by the service or quality.

As for having a LTATT, not true. I do not have an ATT and am not a member of a gun club and I still was able to purchase an IWI Jericho in 9mm.

With Greatest Respect,

Matt

Kudos??

They sold you the Wrong handgun, They made the mistake and they wanted to charge you a 10% re-stocking fee???

I would be screaming bloody murder, not thanking them.
Damn right they took it off. They were in the wrong.

What about the guy that had no idea what he was talking about? He should give you an apology, someone at Epps should be apologizing to You!

How much time have you wasted now trying to get this Pistol?

I would take my business elsewhere.

the rule in ontario i thought was, you needed to own a handgun before you could recieve a long term ATT, and need to be a member of a shooting club to purchase one?

you need a valid LTATT before a restricted transfer will be completed

You sure about that? I applied for an LTATT and was told no dice as I didn't own any restricted firearms. Once I bought one, a one time ATT was issued and I reapplied for the LTATT. Now that I owned one, I got it.

I thought this as well, but 2 weeks ago my best friend took possesion of his nice new Performance center 627. He was NOT a current member of any club, Nor did he have a LTATT.

I think, as usual, this thread is going away from the original subject. I have dealt with Ellwood Epps frequently and have always been satisfied with every detail of their service and happy with the guns I purchased there. Always a pleasure to enter that store.

Yes, Epps is generally really good to deal with. They are human and make mistakes sometimes but if you talk rationally to them, they generally deal rationally with you. I have found they are usually polite in pointing out when, I, the consumer have made a mistake too (which of course happens far to often)

All in all, they are easily my favorite store to deal with period.

In order for a restricted transfer to get approved (not only in Ontario), you'll need to be a member of an approved shooting range (if you acquired the gun for target shooting).
Now, if you are a member of the said shooting range, you will also need a LTATT to transport your restricted firearms legally to the range.

To the OP: what is so great about Epps? Because they waived the 10% restocking fee?
To ask for a 10 percent restocking fee in your case in the first place is nothing more than attempted theft!
You should know that I love Epps, and I go there several times a year to spend quit some money.
Now however, hearing about their BS restocking policies, I am not sure if I will do business with them again.

As I have already stated, I like dealing with Epps and the other reason is,where else can you go that has the stock that they carry.? I deal with Le Baron on Woodbine and unlike others on CGN, have a good relationship with the guys behind the counter, and also Williams in Port Perry. Williams is a real gunshop of the old kind, they will order anything you want if not already in their well stocked store and are very pleasant people to deal with. As regards Epps restocking policy, I don`t see it as a concern as whenever I have purchased a gun from them, I have never intended to return it so would not allow an isolated incident as happened to the original poster to prevent me dealing with them in the future. I consider myself fortunate to have access to the gunshops that I patronise without having to travel any real distance. Just my opinion. !!

This must be an Ontario requirement as I have never been asked for proof of a LTATT on any of my restricted purchases. My last purchase was two weeks ago.

Take Care

Bob

They know you (not sure if you should feel good about that or totally creeped out by it :D) - there is a requirement (dreamed up only recently) in BC that anyone registering a restricted for "Target Shooting" must have a LTATT in place or the transfer will not proceed.

... meanwhile, backattheranch .....

Since making the original posting, I have received yet another email from Epps asking if the problem had been resolved to my satisfaction. I replied in the affirmative, thanking them for their service.
My options were (a) a full credit on my VISA or to (b) apply the payment towards my back order and a credit balance . Since I had already been billed a down payment for the back order, I opted for the full credit.

I believe that their policy re: orders is stated in the fine print on their web site. Yes, I was misinformed about the frame size of the .45 LC, BUT - I called Ruger Customer Service in the US, giving them the info from Epps. THEY confirmed it as being on the XR3 .357 frame like my wife's .44 Spl.s - WRONG!
I got the impression talking to the lady at the other end that she would not know a small frame NM Blackhawk from her left shoe. So, I asked Epps for the pictures which came ASAP. They used to post pics on their web site; now you have to ask.

I was also very satisfied with Ellwood Epps service. I purchased a Walther P99 while I did not have an ATT and it arrived in a few days. I would not be a satisfied customer if the OP's story happened to me!
