Blindside, you're really startin' to piss me off. :p
Seriously, looks good! This is a Greater Kudu, right? I've never understood the white eye-stripe... ? Zebras have multi-stripes which is disruptive camo, but one (white) stripe under the eye?... It can't help them see very well on bright, sunny days. Why do CFL and NFL players put stripes of black crap under their eyes. I think the Greater Kudu took a wrong turn at evolution...
("White stripes under my eyes!!! What were my forefathers thinking??!!" - Greater Kudu...)
:D

No offense, but why? He looks great and that was the way you found him. Where did you find him?

Dean

Well actually, its not the way I found him..When they boil the skull for almost a whole day(horns and all)to seperate horn from skull. The horns lighten snd fade from what they would be alive...Its also nice to take a bit of the death sag out of the ears,so their up about 10-15 degrees off horizontal.A kudu thats possed looking straight at you, just doesnt look right.Kinda like if you did something to catch a horses attention, you wouldnt expect horizontal ears

Which outfitter did you use, I am thinking of taking my son in the summer of 2007. Gotta save.

Well this is an interesting story, which would take more words than I can type...The outfitter I went with treated me like royalty, but wouldnt admit he didnt have any kudu around..So after much yelling and screaming I got him to take me to another professional hunter who actually lived up to that name.....He was a better hunter, skinner was better,etc,etc,etc..I am trying deaperately hard to get his contact info. The nano-second I do,I'm posting it for all..

Hi blindside
Got a question What paper work did you need to do to get your trophy back?
I Shot one a couple of years ago in the Northern-Transvaal and dont know how to get my trophy over.

Assuming its skinned and prep'd by salt bath or tanning, you need a letter from an african government veternarian stating they inspected it and a letter of export from the gov..

Its a nice trophy, but with all respect next time get your trophies mounted in Africa where they know what a kudu should look like. The face on your kudu looks like a cross between a donkey and a goat, the white line should be a "V", not a straight line. Kudu has a longer "face". Ears should be a lot higher too. Seems like they used an elk mould and tried to fit your kudu on it? Still a nice trophy though, you can be proud of it.

The angle I took the pic at doent do justice to the fact that there is a V line to the white patches which follow the eye contour. As you can see from pic he's at taxidermists(was) with ears not yet pinned up at about 20 degrees to harden...With all respect I've seen the #### that comes from africa(the place thats to far away to keep an eye on or seek legal action after they phuk you) and its trash, much like the trash that they started ,which my taxidermist had to fix...And he is a nice trophy..I wondered though, might I just see a pic of your mount for comparison purposes...Thanks

I'm kinda struggling with this, given that the form was ordered directly from Mackenzie taxidermy supply house based on the measurements taken off the animal when shot..HHHHHMM,oh well,we'll struggle along

Having to deal with a "bad" trophy is not fun, if you are in Canada and the taxidermist is in Africa. Therefore, use the best you can find. I have always recommended Highveld Taxidermists. http://www.highveldtaxidermists.com/index.html
Look at the website and the pictures.
Field measurements should be taken of the animal after the hunt and let the taxidermist use these since individual animals differ in size. You can also use it to check the mount afterwards. Check with your taxidermist before the hunt to know which measurements to take. From your second picture the "V" looks different than on the first. Yours is a nice trophy.
