Hey Nutters

I just picked up the Kwik Klip Rem 700 Short Action detachable mag kit (and an extra mag) from Reliable Gun in Vancouver and installed it in my .308 with a laminate stock.

Fit: The KK trigger guard fit the stock perfectly...no issues.
In order for the detachable mag to "click in" and drop free cleanly I had to use 2 of the 4 supplied spacer shims/washers under the rear of the trigger guard. With spacers in place the mag inserts and drops free with no issues.
The mags fit tight and don't rattle around at all.

Finish: The finish is a little rough if you're picky, but you'll never notice from a couple feet away. The anodizing might be a little thin and easy to scratch on the bottom of the magazines...time will tell.

Function: I researched this system online before purchase...one common issue I read about was also a problem with both the magazines I have.
The bolt was not picking up and feeding the rounds out of the mags...it would nudge the cartridge forward, then override it. This is a simple fix...simply bend the feed lips gently up in small increments until the rounds feed properly. If you go too far the rounds will jump up and out of the mag too soon when pushing the bolt slowly forward...just tweak the feed lips back until everything works as it should.
The feed lips are made of sturdy sheet metal, so carefully bending them is no big deal.
Make sure you test the mags at full capacity...in this case, 4 rounds for .308.

Obviously, it would be nice if the mags fed perfectly right out of the box, but if you're the least bit handy you won't have any trouble getting them to work as they should.

OAL: Another issue I read about was that the mag dimensions would not allow hand loaders to load rounds out to max OAL (2.810" for .308) or beyond for best accuracy. Some people found that you could not even load out 2.5". This is not the case with the mags I have...both mags have enough room to load out to 2.855", so that should work well with most bullets.
Anyone shooting factory ammo will have no problems in this department.

Overall I'm happy with this conversion kit. If you're looking at affordable detachable mag options you might like this one.

Wow, remember for years they only made a Kwik Clip conversion for the long action!

Thank you for this post! I have been looking for an easy solution to gain a 2.85” capibable magazine for my 7mm-08 as it shoots like a dream at that OAL.

Dumb question maybe, but did you try mag feeding at 2.85"? That's what I load to for a 7mm-08 Rem Seven and they feed no issue. Much over 2.9 and I have problems.

I have used long action Kwik Klips for many years with no problems. I bought my short action kit a few years ago and it works on my .243 just fine... no alterations required for feeding.
