Wasn't sure where to post here or in gear/accessories, so i'll give er a try heres.

I'd like your opinion on Kydex style vs Nylon Style thigh rigs.

Right now I'm running a generic universal pistol thigh holster for my G17, it is held in retention by a snap button strap across the back of the handle. It sits too low, and it flops around quite a bit when I'm running. It is also to show signs of wear, as It sees a lot of abrasions during the course of fire. I don't like that I have to snap the button back on after each time I holster and unholster. I use to run a Fobus on the belt and liked the no t having to snap buttons, but gave it up because of the 2nd line gear getting in the way.

So I am in the mkt for something a little heavy duty. I've briefly researched on the internet, some of the nylon products from BHI, and kydex type like safariland or bianchi.

Is there more pros vs cons when running a strapless retention system like kydex? or does it still realliy need straps? I've trained with both and have gotten use to unsnap and pull, but I can always train just pull.
Longevity issues? abrasion issues? heat?

In terms of brands or models, I don't really care whether its gucci or walmart as long as it holds retention and is easy to deploy and sits higher up near the ballsac vs the knees, I'll train with it just the same.

Is there a best of both worlds

Have you checked out Blade tech? kydex...If level one retention is all you require...the tension can be adjusted..mine has a paddle or belt slide...nice and smooth inside to reduce wear on the pistol..and a reassuring click when you reholster...

Funny I find that nylon generally wears less than the Kydex holsters, even those fitted for the gun. I keep a nylon one around for the guns that I don't want to buy a proper holster for or can't find one.
