What is the approximate value of a 12 gauge L. C. Smith SXS with decent bore and stock? I can't provide a better description. Appears to have a nickel-plated receiver.

More info needed....or better yet add quality photos to your post. Decent can have a million meanings to different people. Also, things like barrel length, chokes etc all have meaning and can change valuations

There is an LC Smith webpage with quite a bit of info. You can see where your model fits in and maybe get a production date. As far as price Beretta covered that off already.

And "nickel plated receiver" isn't a good start.

I think this answers my question rather well. There was imprecision in my inquiry. I have since learned the gun is a Hunter model, although that may not help much. The serial number is 332###. I likely won't have an opportunity to look it up on the L. C. Smith website, as was suggested, before it is sold. Other things being equal I probably would be interested in buying it to replace a proud old external hammer Liege-made SXS I use for upland hunting.

I highly doubt the receiver is nickel plated. The receiver would have been case hardened but as the years have past by the case colors have faded leaving the appearance of a nickel finish. Quite normal for an old gun.

I didn’t think it would be either but that description yells “buffed with a wheel”.

Bowing to the experts here of course ,but In my experience the worn colors on LC .Smith guns do often display a nickel plate look to them that other makes usually don't ...that being said pics or better yet a hands look would tell the tale .

Good luck with her !

Sure Chris, go ahead and contradict me. LOL

Did that custom LC you did for you know who look nickel plated when you started? Just asking, not challenging.

The bright, nickel-coloured receiver was shiny enough that you could use it as a mirror, if you wanted. I didn't. It was sold at auction today for $450.

It did actually in spots very bright ,I had another the past year and one three years ago that I had to convince my CCH guy wasn't nickel plated .

I sold an LC Smith Ideal grade, unfired, c.1947, a couple of years ago for $1600.

**edited to read unfired
