L HOLLIS & SON shotgun

i just picked up an old percussion shotgun. the top of the barrel and
the lock plate has L HOLLIS & SON. the bore is .588 at the muzzle.
there is #24 on the bottom of the barrel and H132 on the ramrod rib.
it looks like damascus barrel. the bore is shiny the bottom half and the muzzle half has some pitting. as u can see the wood finnish is gone and the forearm is cracked. i can't anything as for age on this thing. i'm also wondering about
it's value. thanks for any help

L Hollis is actually Isaac Hollis. By 1862 he had become Hollis and Sons. I would put the date of your gun in the early 1860s.
the 24 refers to the guage
value I am guessing to be around $200 locally

It looks to have very nice wood on it if restored. At this stage of it's life it can only improve it's looks and value. Have fun with it.

No rifling? It is the exact same bore as the .577 Enfields except for the lack of rifling. It is a great candidate for restoration and is from one of the premier makers in Great Britain of that time frame. I'd restore it and if necessary, reline the barrel. Nice old rifle. Dave
