Just wanted to give you guys know that there will be a rifle match held at EESA on May 2-4 (24th). Over the last few years, there's been a precious few rifle matches held in our section which makes up half of Canada's membership. This year I know of at least 3. Wanted to extend my thanks to DH and CR for organizing more matches in 1 year than our section had in the last 4 and to EK for holding a steady string of practice matches based on IPSC rules at BRRC whenever he could get away with it. Thanks also go out to the clubs (BRRC/EESA/PFGC) for giving us the venues.

The match filled up in no time. Kinda scary how many names I recognize on that list considering how new I am to the sport. We need to get more people involved in long guns. DH and CR gave it a good start by more than doubling our 5 year average in a single season. Let's hope others pick up the torch as well.. Remember: long guns are cool again ;)

Thanks for all who came out to the match and huge thanks to Dan H for organizing it. The weather could not have been better............mind you I did get a bit to much sun.

Thanks Dan and thanks go out to all the RO's and everybody else who worked hard to make this match happen! I had a great time! Word to the wise: Bring binos for the next one.. I couldn't even locate some of the targets lol

I had a great time bombing around on my ATV all day.
Thanks for all that helped!

I was back to the range this morning for shotgun practice......I scored big on .223 brass..WOOT!!!!

I also picked up 2 articles of clothing that were left on the range....if you can describe them, they will be returned to the rightful owners!

After looking at the match results, it seem like about 1/3 of this match points was about "if you can hit targets at 200+ yards" (i.e. stage 1). That made big bias on the accuracy component, leaving power and speed components of IPSC less important.

I admire the skill of those who managed to hit targets at 200 and 300 yards, though it would have been more balanced match with far targets and precision shots spread more evenly between stages. Just saying...

In my humble opinion, stage 1 was the only true RIFLE stage. With a little adjustment, all the other stages could have been shot with a pistol.

This was a rifle match, right?
What do I know, I've never run an Ipsc match.

I think I might have pulled off a half-decent score at that stage had I brought binos or if there was a stage diagram posted (unless I missed it lol). I'm assuming 300 is already a bit far for an on-foot walkthrough if you wanna finish the match within a reasonable amount of time. Don't mind the points spread for a rifle match. (This is all coming from a guy for whom this was the first time ever shooting anything like this, so I'd be curious to hear what the usual practices are for stages that stretch out past the 100yd mark). For those of you who have shot these matches south of the border or in provinces with more great facilities like EESA, how are the walkthroughs for these types of stages usually handled? Do all the competitors bring binos, is there a diagram typically posted or do they observe the RO's with the naked eye and jot down their own diagrams?

The 200/300m targets were clearly pointed out by flag waving 7.62.
They were also placed right next to large, easily seen blue barrels.
I don't know how anyone wouldn't have been able to find/see them.
I agree with banger... It's great to shoot rifles at decent distances... They're rifles fer Pete's sake!!!
That's one of the reasons I just can't see getting into that cqb stuff... Rifles at 35m and under..?
Not enough of a challenge... IMO.
