Lab Radar - Bluetooth

My friend also has a labradar and told me this this morning.
The only minor concern I got, you can connect to any labradar without the need to pair devices.
Unless there is something I did not understand yet.

Will someone mess with our settings while we shoot? (very unlikely)
Will someone connect to match chrono to get his load to pass? (some people are pure scumbags so this is probable)

From what I've seen, you need to power on the unit just after you've started to attempt to connect the app to the Available/ Known unit displayed in the app. If the unit is fully booted, and not connected to the app, then I have not been able to connect to it. As such, as long as you have control of the unit, then I think it is unlikely someone will be able to highjack it.

While it could maybe use some polish, I think the app is useable as is, and it is easier to use than the push button interface as well. If you're really paranoid, you can stick with the older firmware I guess. Maybe future firmware will have an option to disable the Bluetooth, but I'm not overly concerned with it.

I have tried to update mine. When the SD card is installed and powered on the blue LED just flashes and doesn't do anything over many minutes. The SD card is not protected. I have tried several times now by using a card reader to put the files on and via USB. Strange.

Yes I did. However does our require GPS signal? I was testing the connection inside the house.

GPS not required. I also tested in the house.

Had it to the range today. It is great being able to control it with a phone and have the data on the phone as well as the Labradar unit.

We'll I took it out side of my house and finally got it to work with a stable connection. Whatever I did either searching for the unit before turning on the unit or turning it and refreshing it the blue tooth finally got connected. I would have to agree the app is pretty nifty and convenient versus button pushing manually.

I would try connecting the unit to a PC through USB and copying the two firmware files to the root directory of the USB drive it should install on the PC, Then try again to install the firmware with a normal power up (No USB). The other thing to try would be a factory reset from the push button menu. Is there any indication of formatting of the SD card? If so, that could be the issue as well. Could also be an issue of low battery depending how you are powering the unit.

There’s a little tab you need to shift on the sd card

Thanks I just found it and success

Took mine to the indoor range for the first time and worked good with iPhone. Only thing is I have to make something to put between it and my revolvers as the LabRadar gets blasted from the cylinder gap.

They are both good units - imho.

My experience and what I found while doing my per-purchase research. Feel free to agree or disagree.

Magnetospeed is idiot proof as long as you attach it to the same spot every time. It won't work with pistols without rail and I believe bows. While I was doing my research, they were coming up with some mickey mouse solutions to make this happen but I was not overly impressed. It can be used indoors and outdoors. Yes, you are attaching something to a barrel but realistically if you are not doing some serious competitions, very long range, etc... it really should not makes any difference to your average shooter.

Labradar is less idiot proof to use - readings depend on user setup. The unit needs to be align exactly every time in the same spot or you are introducing errors. Something that could be harder to achieve if you are using some muzzle breaks or changing shooters. From what I am being told, Labradar can get confused in small indoor rangers but I haven't tested this yet. Labradar can be used with all type of firearms (rail, no rail) revolvers, antiques, bows, crossbows, etc. That being said I found that my labradar has issues reading .22 bullets and readings are sporadic.
