Now that there are a few LR's in the wild, can I have thought on LR vs. MS??

I see the MS causes a consistent change in POI, which doesn't worry me. MS is quite a bit less money, and comes with case/etc.

How are the interfaces?? No LR app yet, is there?? Is the MS good?

Merci.

I'm leaning there too....

I was very gung-ho for the LR, but it seems that it might have a ways to go.....

Love to hear other thoughts....

the LR apparently has bluetooth capability built-in just need a software update. The biggest thing I found is that you can switch between rifles painlessly and quickly. Perfect example was last Monday's 600m BCRA practice, I had 3 other guys get their strings clocked without any delays on the firing line. It literally was place, point and shoot. No straps or adapters to get broken/misplaced. It works on everything from bow's to airsoft/bb to pistols to rifles. All your readings are uploadable from SD card, which are in nice reports per string and then also tracks each shot you took. I've seen guys mess around with their magnetospeed for 5-10 minutes getting it aligned just right. All I do with my LR is take it out of the bag, screw onto base, plug in USB battery and turn on, place near muzzle and point at target. Press the target button twice and you're all set for your first shot.

I wanted the best/easiest way to get velocities, now I chrono all my sessions just because I can. The best best best part is that you can NEVER shoot your LR, its behind your muzzle!

A friend and I shoot together all the time and he has a labradar. We easily share it back and forth between our benches, quick and easy setup when its mounted on a tripod. The only downside is the high cost and its a bit of a battery eater. I've read that some guys take a rechargable power source.

LR works very well but cost is up there and software still needs tweaks but it is very close.

MS is super easy to set up and once you get the strap in the right place, I don't bother with alignment per se.... just look down the bore and if you do not see anything, done.

on a heavy barrel, I can use the MS without changing my load tuning but it will affect light barrels.

I am going to make an adapter so the MS is mounted to an arm that mounts to my MPOD. That way, it cannot affect the barrel harmonics. Others have already done this so I know it works.... just got to get something made up.

MS sporter is the least expensive way to get reliable velocity readings... got some instock.

Lanbradar is incredible, probably the best, but it's not cheap. Nechako Outdoors sells them and Todbartell has done extensive work with it. If you have the $$$, I have not seen a better system

Definitely LR for my shooting buddies.
I'll stick to MS for my pocket books.

If you count time by the seconds get the LR. If you spend minutes BSing and enjoying the shoot the MS will suffice.

The LabRadar also records velocities at user designated intervals 20yds, 50yds, 80yds and so on.

This gives the capability of 'back engineering' a Ballistic Coefficient for your elevation and other atmospherics.

The RCMP ert guys use the magneto-speed, but I'm guessing they use it to check velocities on different lots of ammo, therefore adjusting their dope to the variance in velocity from lot to lot.

Also, when shooting groups the LabRadar doesn't affect the barrel harmonics as it is a stand alone. Each round is recorded, if one round out of a 5 shot string is deemed a flyer, and it skews the ES either being high or low.......then you will have an 'explained' flyer and an opportunity to eliminate the cause.

It is claimed to be accurate to 0.1% so is very compatible using ,in conjunction, with the QuickLoad program. Makes it much easier to find a node, selecting powder and a host of other positives.

Just found out MS makes a pic rail adaptor now to mount the V3 near the barrel.

For rifles with a pic rail or one that can be added, problem of mounting to the barrel solved.

Works for HG now too.
