Ladder or climber tree stands

When you say climber stand do you mean a self climber that you strap on to yourself and shimy your way up the tree or do you mean a standard stand where you screw in the foot pegs? If you mean the later then I would go that route. I have used both and you really need 2 people to carry all the components of a ladder stand and it is a pita to put together and set up. Once the ladder stand is up you pretty much need to leave it for the remainder of the hunt given the trouble to setup. A tree stand with footpegs is portable... you can carry along with your gear/gun, set it up and remove it the same day... the most portable and easiest to use.
I love the ease of getting in and out of ladder stands.... but they are a PITA to set up..... I am not big on heights and the ladder stands are more stable IMOP... and taking that first step off of one isn't as scary....
I have all 3 styles and each has its own benefits
For starters always use a full safety harness while using any of them.
My summitt viper ( self climber) very comfortable but you will make more noise going up and down.You MUST join the two sections together with a piece of rope so you dont loose the bottom half.The top section must be anchored securely with a ratchet strap or something as once you take the weight off while standing it can shift sideways or drop down if not secured.I almost fell once like that.
Great portability if you want to change spots.
Ladder stand is harder to set up and to get it into the bush but once up they are great
Bolt on style , I use two ways to get up the screw in steps and the climbing sticks .The sticks are a better and easier item to use and install .
On a really high set up I once used a rope anchored at the top to use as safety line where I used a prussic loop off my harness to the anchor rope to have myself secured to a rope while climbing up the tree and in and out of my stand.

I use ladder stands. I have always wanted to try one of the climbers. I have a friend who uses a climber and he really likes it. He did say that it takes a bit of getting use to as it seems a bit wobbly a first. If you buy a climber make sure there are lots of fairly straight trees you can limb up to climb.
