I want to set up a 2 person ladder stand. I hunt on public land and was wondering if its possible to set it up but remove the ladder. I don't mind other hunters using it but theft and vandalism have been a problem in the past. Any thoughts?

Thanks everyone. Steve.

I am new to stands, but I currently have a 2-person stand on crown land.

On the model I bought, most of the ladder sections are held together with locking pins with retaining wire, so you could leave the seat portion of the stand secured to the tree and remove the ladder.

Have a look at B.C.'s hunting regs and Crown Land usage rules. You may not be allowed to leave the stand there. Not much you can do about theft or vandalism other than locks and chains.

But if its public land and you leave your stand there, doesn't that take away from a person that might want to hunt the area too?

Here in my part of Southern Ontario crown land is scarce. The little crown land that is available comes mostly in 100 acre lots that are surrounded by private property. Putting up a tree stand and not taking it down in areas like this makes one selfish and lazy. If you bring it in, take it out, what’s the saying…. “Leave no footprint behind”…
But if you are talking 1,000 of acres… what’s the harm….just be respectful....
