Ladder test vs ladder test.FAIL - Rifle needs help.

Kelly, have you tried shooting it off a bipod?

If not, give it a go to see if it makes a difference.

No I haven’t , not sure it would help without a confirmed load? I am using a Rock BR front rest and rear bag off my bench so I’m hoping that eliminates as much human error as possible but I know what your saying about trying the bi-pod as it changes the reaction to movement and recoil.

Yeah I also have the same front rest and from my experience I have some rifles that I can shoot better when using a bipod...stock fit maybe??

What works for me is putting a heavy sandbag on the bench and loading the bipod against it...plus it will most likely be closer to duplicating a field shooting scenario.

Try one of the better loads you have now...nothing to lose!

Grabbed a box of these.................

If they don't shoot than I have issues, Ill first try a new ladder test with the different scope to see if it duplicates how poor my last one was, I think that is the last thing I can eliminate, again.

If it looks like a shotgun pattern I will pack up and go home and see who wants the rifle and not bother with the Gold Match ammo

If it were me, I'd be trying different bullets. Sounds like you've only tried the 2. Although I never had a rifle that didn't like Sierra's i would maybe try a 200gr eldx or maybe a barnes 180. Could also try something with a flat base. I've had rifles that just didn't do well with boattails.

It's a Benchmark barrel, I should be getting far better results regardless , but I've already loaded some flat base speer 165 to try tomorrow with my others. If I have to go to a flat base light bullet to get it to work I'd might as well just shoot a .308 or 30-06. ;)

Unfortunately there is limited supply in my area so most of my components come from online, I order a couple, try, order more, try, then celebrate new years by the time I get anywhere. :d

If there is no improvement on the ladder I will run the Federals and the Speer and see what is what , if it is decent tomorrow and I can shoot I'll have a decision made on what I am going to do.

Gotta love your persistence Kelly.
Best of luck.

Well, I concede, it's over with this time.

I will contact Gary at Bighorn an see who he uses or suggests for a smith.

I put on a different scope this morning and ran the same ladder with the 180 SGK as before.....................

I loaded some 165 Speer Grand Slam flat base to see what they did............

I shot the Federal Gold match as well......................

And for those that are going to ask or comment about me not being able to shoot or the gun being too much, just don't.

My buddy shipped a barrel back to Gary and had it replaced. Gary sent him photos of a spot in the barrel that had problems from manufacturing. He got a new barrel. It was a benchmarking

Like it or not, sometimes one gets a bad bbl....no matter how expensive or what name brand.
I chased a new, name brand, bad bbl for most of a competitive yr and wasted a ton of time and money before changing it out. It was night and day. The next bbl was so easy to find the load and started out like it was supposed to.
My gunsmith had told me at the start, if it doesn't shoot right away (barring something obvious, and you know what you are doing), change it.
He was right.

Just a WAG, but for some reason I started wondering about the barrel crown while I was reading this. Get a look for imperfection and symmetry?

From reading this it doesn’t appear that this barrel ever shot well?

These are the best I can do , can't get any closer to show the machining marks.

I did however capture these...

I mentioned to Gary I could see a warble about 3/4" from the muzzle, he explained that the finish sometimes can show defects if the person doesn't pay attention. So, today I figured I'd see if I could feel it, not really, but you can definitely see a low point. It dose circle the barrel for the most part.

I did do a video of it that shows it better.
