Ladder Type Tree Stand Selection

that's scary dude, looking for a tree stand with your handle- from the looks of thiings, i think double- you'll want a good wide top end with lots of room to manouver- from what i've seen even the doubles look like the guys get pretty cozy- maybe put some planks around the top to increase the area- and get one that can take your WEIGHT- not what the bathroom scale says you weigh, but fully dressed with all your kit on- there's a few that are light tin that will bend - not a good idea, don't cheap out

got two cheepies from BP last season($65) love them, actually have fallen asleep in them. Bought another this year. I weigh 260lbs, they are rated for 300. They also come with a harness.

Pretty hard putting the single up solo, wouldn't want to try a double one without help...

I just got the deluxe gorilla from CT that was on sale for 130 from 200. I am an employee so get the discount on top as well, so great price for a great ladder stand. comes with the gorilla air ride cushion, nice bow and gun pivoting rest, full body harness, and lineman's rope. Very solid ladder stand, better then that $65 one I saw at BP. Just looks more solid, but who knows.

the best part of the buy was the instructional video (vhs - who does that anymore?). showed how to setup, how not to fall off, and showed tips for using the harness, and getting out of sticky situations. great touch.

went out tonight to BP and got the foot rest as well.

going to put it up in my front yard (Brampton) tomorrow evening. Going to try it alone.

you could probably get this same sale price by merely asking at a store.

hope this helps?

i figure i run pretty close to 300 with kit on- abt 240-250 bathroom scale, then it's not impossible to add another 50 with clothes, ammo and gun- the thought of 300 plus falling from about 20 feet up - something's going to break-

Gorilla is a good stand. They are very quiet, some of the cheap ones don't weld the mesh in enough places so they can make alot of noise when you shift your weight.

Have you considered a climber? I found them easier to take in if you are on foot and you can relocate easily if need be.
