Ladies and Gentlemen, the Garand has reached $2000+

So are Mitchell's Mausers Pretty! LOL They are put together, repro parts, reblued, renumbered, not original.....and Pretty!
Ever seen one of their K98 SS rifles or their ads?

Is Pretty the new replacement word for common sense when buying? It just might be...

They're actually not that pretty. Looked at a MM sniper at Milarm a few years back and it was surprisingly ugly.

I remember buying my M1D (no scope) for 350 bucks in 1999 and it was in great shape. I gave it away to a Swiss friend of mine when I left the Yukon. Guess I should have kept it lol.

Or desperate buyers.

I qualify for the CMP in the States so my plan is to buy up some of those Korean M1's coming back home and sell enough of them up here to retire at this rate.

You need to read Orest's comments on these Korean M1 Garands just released for import. They are not qualifing rifles for US govt returns. They will not therefore be sold by the CMP. :(

Pfffft. Rather a (T) than a D if you get my drift.

How about an M1C? You just never know just what will turn up. I got one locally about 5 yrs ago and since had it authenticated as a bona-fide M1C by the Garand Collectors Assn. It cost some coin to get hold of the correct scope mount, but a very worthwhile exercise as these are a very scarce bird.

:)

Exactly 1100$ if you are lucky, with all the shipping and customs charges. It is sure fun to build them.

a bit off topic but of a similar vein if ya wanna DIY garand:

to build a garand from parts, that is even if you can find parts that aren't pooched, you are talking in the neighbourhood of 1,100 minimum.
more like 1300 bucks.
now if you want a "correct" garand of a rare date then good luck.

then to buld one you need at the minimum a barrel vice and action wrench(home made or not), a go and no go guage and better yet a field guage and
finally (if it's a new barrel) a pull through reamer and cutting oil along with the shaft and "t"-handle.the reamer kit goes for over 200 bucks to your door.

so people selling garands for over 1000 bucks is fair as long as the parts are as NOS as possible...

my 2 cents...

The first two Garands I bought were 200 bucks each. I sold one of them last year for 650. It lasted 10 minutes on the EE. I think the fasination is the 8 shot en block clip.

I fondled that garand today at 6167's house. It was well worth the money in my opinion.

It is a case of supply and demand, garands are one of the most highly desired milsurp rifles. I get an average of 4-6 requests per week from people looking for them.

The parts are snapped up on a regular basis here on CGN, ebay and other places. There is a massive hobby building, rebuilding and refurbishing garands and that also keeps the supply slim.

We can all complain about the rising price but there is nothing we can do. Hey, I would like .15 Mars bars again that time has come and gone as well.
