Ladies Lever Gun?

True, levers are harder to load and not always as accurate. However, the hammer on my Marlin 1894C is small for small thumbs and easy to manipulate and can be made even easier to manipulate by installing a lighter spring.

Pulling the trigger with your finger and letting the hammer back with your thumb takes some practice.
The simple fact that you have to pull the trigger is the obvious reason that makes an external hammer gun the most dangerous of them all.
Hammer guns cause the most accidental discharges of any of the actions types or safety types... that is no mystery.
I don't hate them... I respect them for what they are.

There are a ton of them... and as an instructer I get to see all kinds of new shooters with all the action types. The external hammers for the uninitiated are definitely the hardest and where the most accidental CLICK's happen.

I guess it depends on what year your lever is made. My Marlin 1894SS has a cross bolt safety that will protect the user from an accidental slip while decocking the hammer.

My wife loves my Win 94 in 30/30 .
It has several shortcomings as do most lever's IMO .
But My wife loves it . Thin , light and classic looks with power to match .
The pistol calibers might be nice to plink with but if she actually needed to use it for something other than cardboard and pop cans the 30/30 would provide a lot more peace of mind IMO .
And you could always us a lighter load to plink with .

I posted earlier that I purchased the Ruger 77/44 44mag bolt action rifle for my wife.

Part of the reason for this choice is that I am licensed to carry a S&W 629 44mag revolver in remote wilderness areas and to have a rifle that shot the same bullets as my handgun really worked for me.

If I was to do it again I don't know if this rifle would be my first choice for her again it might be a Ruger compact stainless steel black grey laminate stocked rifle in 308 Win instead.

I reload so can customize loads for her to grow with her growing shooting abilities. I would also have iron sights installed and is another part of the reason that I got her the 77/44. She likes the option of not having to use a scope all of the time.

I think I'm going to go with a Marlin 1894C in .357 / .38. I like that she can start out getting comfortable plinking with the .38 and then move up to the .357.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. If anybody happens to have an 1894c they're looking to get rid of, let me know.

I agree 100%. The one and only accidental discharge I've ever had was with my BLR .243. Scared the crap out of me. Thank god for muzzle control!

How about a Winchester 92 clone in 357 ?

I have a stainless Rossi SRC (20") in 357, bought from, and slicked up by, 'Steves Guns' from Texas. Super slick, super easy to shoot, and quite powerful should you need that.
