Lady Noob looking for shotgun that fits

As gwagen pointed out, he really didn't know what gun fit really is until he spent some time and money with a person that knows what gun fit really is and was able to work his "magic" on gwagen's gun.

To some degree, we are overwhelming you with information and you are now looking for your perfect gun. If you are really going to get serious and do a lot of shooting and compete, you will need to have a significant amount of experience before you will buy your last gun. Many folks change guns many, many times before they get one that they shoot for a long time.

If you feel that you can handle an O/U, then try a used Beretta or a used Browning. One of those two guns will feel better (more comfortable / natural) than the other. Then look for a good condition used one of those, with a short, adjustable stock already on it. Spend some time and money on fitting and patterning the gun. Take a clinic from Nora Ross and then shoot as much as you can, for a couple of years. After that, you will be in a position to decide where you want to go in the clays games.

gwagen, on a similar topic, where do you like your skeet gun to pattern? Centered on the bead?

I can't say for sure, some of my best shooting was done with guns that shot 50/50.

But I still like higher shooting guns, as you can keep the target in sight more easily and react to targets that come out low or jump up or down.

50/50 is more forgiving, especially in a recovery situation, but if you've got the fundamentals down and execute good shots most of the time, I think a higher shooting gun will net more targets

My youngest daughter is 5'1" and does well at trap with a Youth 11-87 in 20 ga. Soft on the shoulder, light enough to be handled easily, and even 20 ga. target loads will get the job done.

Realize that cutting down the stock of a regular gun (with a 26"-30" barrel) to fit a shorter person makes for a VERY muzzle heavy gun. That's why the Youth/Ladies guns have a 20"-21" barrel as well.
