I am coming back to the shooting sports after a long hiatus (25ish years!). I had chance yesterday to go out to range with the first (and only) rifle I ever purchased - a Lakefield 64B with a cheap Bushnell 3-7x20 scope [I have a couple of lever guns and 3 shot guns but all were inherited]. I still have the original receipts from 1992. $117.88 for the rifle (fr Cdn Tire) and $45 for the scope (Home Hardware).

I put around 250 rounds through it yesterday using combination of 28 year old Armscor Precision, Rem Yellow Jacket, PMC Predator, and some newly purchased CCI sub sonic (1050 fps). Shot at 25yds and 50yds.

Few things I discovered: the Bushnell scope did not get better with age. My old eyes had difficulty seeing though it at 50 yds (was adequate at 25); my skills are very (very!) rusty; If I loaded the mag to capacity, I would often get failure to fee on 2nd and sometime 3rd round, particularly with the CCI and Armscor. Loading 8 rounds gave no trouble at all.. While my groups were nothing to write home about, I had a hell of a fun couple of hours shooting paper and the remnants of a few clays that I found.

Cheers

Good to hear you are getting back into it. A 64B was my first semi auto 22. Mine used to get gritty inside the action, and instead of taking the time to tear it down, I used to just flush the action with wd40 until no more brass chips, etc came out. Apparently there is a way to tear it down, but pre internet days, that information wasn't available to me.
