Geez, if you live there why don't you go to the factory - - or at least call them ??

My guess is Lakefields don't have sufficient collector interest for anybody to do the work of a serial number date chart.

Breaking it down into approximate era might be the best you can do. Any reference to Savage Arms on the rifle? First style of extractor, or the modern style?

I would agree that there isn't much collector interest, I purchased this because I thought it would be interesting to have a rifle from the original gun maker in town. Based on other serial numbers I found online, my serial number is older [100640]. No reference to Savage Arms, first style of extractor.

I don't believe they have a public entrance. I've emailed Savage Arms but they quickly responded saying they don't give information nor service on rifles predating 1995.

Just a tip - use a phone ! I've talked to them - in Lakefield - you have to call a local number or you'll get USA CS Reps with ANY 800 #s, even if it says Lakefield on inet. I had to research to find the local number, forget what it is.

Here's what chat gpt had to say, usually it does pretty ok, not this time, as i feel you probably think yours is older then mid 1990's lol

Congrats on the inheritance! Short answer: there isn’t a public, factory serial-number table for Lakefield-branded Mark II rifles, so you can only bracket the year. Based on known, documented examples:

A Lakefield Mark II with SN ~298,357 has been cited as circa 1993.

Another owner reported SN 274,743 as a Lakefield-marked import (clearly pre-Savage branding), again pointing to the early–mid 1990s.

Savage bought Lakefield in 1995; pre-’95 rifles typically carry “Lakefield Arms” markings.

Collectors on Canadian Gun Nutz also note there’s no official serial/date chart and suggest contacting the Lakefield plant directly rather than U.S. customer service.

Your serial 247,171 sits below those early-’90s examples, so a realistic estimate is ~1991–1992 (±1–2 years).

Ways to tighten the estimate

Markings & features: If it’s roll-marked “Lakefield Arms Co. Ltd.” with no Savage branding and uses the earlier extractor style, that supports pre-1995 manufacture. (This aligns with the collector guidance above.)

Call Savage (Lakefield, ON) directly: Community reports say the local Lakefield number is more helpful for pre-1995 guns than the U.S. 1-800 line. Be ready with your serial and clear photos of the receiver and barrel stamps.

If you want, drop a couple of clear photos of the receiver markings, barrel roll-marks, and extractor/bolt face, and I’ll help you narrow it further.

I have an early Lakefield Mark II with the early style firing pin and extractors held in with pins.
