Hello all, I've turned my attention back to the Lakefield 64 I got from my dad, it was his 16th b'day gift. It isn't a 64b, and it has the wire extractor. The issue is that every single mag has at least one FTE, it tries to load the next round before the last one clears the action. When I first got it, it had the same issues, I cleaned 40 years of gunk out of it, ran it wet, ran it dry, tried different ammo. I finally ordered the kit to replace the old style plastic mag, then tried all the same things. The ejector spring appears ok (wire style), but I suspect the extractor spring (wire type) may be worn. I recently found out, although it was finicky, it was used A LOT for rabbits in southern On. during the old man's teen years, and maybe it has some wear. Any one have a good pic of the extractor spring in good condition, or perhaps a trick I haven't tried yet?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Lol, that's the thread that got me back out in the garage working on this thing in the first place. That looks like a 64b, mine has a different style extractor and ejector. I have a bolt, receiver, barrel for a b, but I'm missing the charge handle and firing pin, plus it's pretty banged up looking.

I adore my 64's, but certainly wouldn't suggest they can't be finicky!

Is the "E" in FTE is for extract, or eject? The older Cooeys had a wire ejector, and a spring steel extractor(retained with a screw). Later models were changed to have a flat-plate "J" shaped ejector, and a plate extractor(retained by roll pin).

If you have a wire ejector, plastic magazine, and spring steel extractor you have a Cooey. If the barrel is stamped "Lakefield", then it would need a flat-plate type ejector. The wire one won't fit it properly.

Good news though. Your spring-steel extractor can be tweaked a bit until it grabs well. Very small and careful changes or it'll look-a-like-Looky's!

There is a chap selling the wire ejectors and flat steel extractors in the rim fire parts EE.
Not sure if they are the correct pieces for your beast though.

Here you go..........my work is dun here..............:onCrack:

I do believe it is the Cooey, it has the wire extractor and ejector and I upgraded the Mag to the newer style. The spent casing is still in the action when the bolt goes to close on the next round. The wire ejector seems alright, but I'm not sure what the extractor is supposed to look like. I'll try tweaking the springs a little and see if that helps. I'd already PM'd the guy on EE, and he didn't have the extractor. Thanks!
