So I recently acquired my father-in-law's Lakefield Mark II .22LR repeater. He kept it under his bed in the original box for about 30 years I would guess. As soon as I picked it up the plastic trigger guard broke into a bunch of pieces. The plastic had obviously become very brittle. Luckily this is the only plastic part on the gun. Anyway, so I am now trying to track down a replacement trigger guard. It appears that the guard for the new savage mark II will not fit. I could just bend one out of 1/8"x1/2" mild steel in a vice, but I'd rather just attach a purpose made part. The spacing between the screw holes is 2-1/2". Any ideas?

I might have one kicking around, I believe DPI or EGW sells this in aluminum or similar for the savage MK II which is the sibling of this rifle. Feel free to PM me, I'll mail it you if I have it (I think it's still on the old stock, I wouldn't charge you) or put an add up in the EE to find one.

I build one out of aluminum for lakefield, when i ordered the boyds evolution SS. Pretty simple to make actually out of a chunk of 6061.

Edit: I couldn't find it, must have broken it putting it in the evolution stock or something.

DIP products would be able to help you out. Another thing is the MKII trigger spacing the same and just needs to be inletted? If that's the case may not be a bad idea to make it work for parts availability.

Western gun parts in Edmonton ( google them for contact info) Also run a add in the EE. There is a fella from BC that deals in older mossberg parts.

Thanks cody c and gunrunner100 for offering me a plastic trigger guard, I decided I wanted to go with something more durable (ie: aluminum or steel)

To summarize what I ended up doing: (for the sake of those who may come upon this thread in the future)
(1) I contacted DIP to see if the trigger guard they make for the Savage Mark II would fit, it will not. The Savage trigger guard is about 3/4" longer than the Lakefield's.
(2) I brought the gun in to my local gunsmith (Jason Spencer in Ottawa). He was able to find, modify and install a salvaged steel trigger guard for $20 (taxes in). The guard was clearly used and slightly rusty, but is very solid and will serve it's purpose. I am very satisfied. Maybe in the future I will attempt to refinish it.
