I have a Lakefield model 64b.I actually took it out yesterday evening after totally stripping it down over the winter and cleaning it.The gun will extract the spent casing but not feed one into the chamber usually every other round. The mag.still has good spring to it.The rifle will normally do this with lead bullets or if it has not been cleaned recently.I am using copper plated and started the season with a clean gun.I know these are the best rifles in the world.Does anyone have any answers to this problem?:(

As a kid I had a 64Deluxe and have kept it over the 35 years since. Indeed the problem is not uncommon. The stock mag was notorious for failure to feed. I just put it away and used my others over the years.. Last year I pulled it out of retirement just to refresh the memory, and yes, the mag still failed. I spent the $20 for a replacement at Wholesale sports and the problem was solved..
Probably will be the case for you as well..
Good luck

I have the Cooey version, and last time I took it out now not only will it not feed worth a damn the mag falls out every time I charge it. Any ideas?

And the mag is new one of the savage 64 mags.

Perhaps the Mag retaining bit is not hooking onto the Mag catch, or the catch is buggered. :)

X1...
May just be the spring on the mag catch needs replacing as it usually presses pretty hard against the mag body. U may wanna have a look at the catch and ensure the "Hook" at the end of the mag catch has not rounded over too.
Just an idea..
Cheers

Try loading the mag to half capacity. Perhaps that tenth round and the full tension of the compressed follower spring is preventing a fully charged mag from seating against the underside of the bolt. If it won't go in far enough, then there is no hope of the mag catch engaging into the recess.

I've had a 64B for a long time and have always had this happen....unless I'm very carefull how I put the mag in. Also, only put 9 in as was mentioned, it seems to help . I might look at the shimm idea too.

Thanks for all the input guys.I'll try putting 9 round in the magazine. If that don't work I will go to SIR and pick up a new one for $20.00.:)

Tried loading one two five in the mag still happens. Brought it home took it all apart again cleaned it up. Put the piece of sh*t back together again put the mag in the well (catch is working fine) and noticed that when the mag seats the bolt moves rearward 2mm. Bad milling on the mag? I am stumped. If I try to wiggle the mag out there is some play but for the most partit wont fall out. Only when I charge it. Plus I noticed now that with the bolt closed I can push the bolt forward a wee bit. I think its toast.
