Hey everyone,

I have an old Lakefield-Mossberg 400 12ga pump that I'm having issues with. It seems to cycle shells fine when not firing, it also chambers and fires the first shot no problem. The issue is after the first shot, the shell lifter doesn't lift the second shell far/fast enough, and the shell jams on the front of the receiver just at the bottom of the chamber.

I took it to a gunsmith who pulled it all apart, and claimed to replace some parts. I took it home and it seemed to cycle alright, but after about 100 rounds it started jamming again. I clean it thoroughly every time I fire it. I also keep all the pertinent parts properly oiled.

Anyone have any ideas or solutions? I don't particularly want to take it back to the gunsmith (at least not the same one).

I pulled it all apart, cleaned everything as best I could. Did find some caked on carbon up in the locking lug well. Tightened up everything I could. Seems to be cycling better bit I haven't been to the range yet to test her out. I'll let you know when I do.

So I took it to the range, no problems cycling shells. However, it wouldn't lock closed. I started looking a little closer and discovered the front of the trigger mechanism was pushed out a bit. Pushed it back in and it would lock. I popped the trigger mech out and could see the two tabs in the front of the trigger mechanism had broken off. Started looking online and this seems to be a common issue in the Lakefield-Mossberg 400 and older Mossberg 500s (same trigger mech). I was looking online for somewhere to buy a replacement, but since Mossberg made the tabs bigger on the newer ones, old trigger mechs are hard to come by.

Anyone know somewhere that would be able to supply old Mossberg 500 trigger mechs?

Have a good look at the so called "Mossberg 500 trigger guard repair kit" after looking at it all it is is a piece of flat steel and some epoxy. I think a quick google check or yoo toob would show you how to fabricate the material and fix it yourself very easily. It would help to have access to a trigger assembly in good order to use for dimensions.
