Lakefield Mossberg barrel

My Dad has a Lakefield Mossberg 12ga, I think its a 400G (?). It was his absolute favorite shotgun. He stopped using it when steel shot became mandatory due to the full choke.

He doesn't want to open the choke up, and refuses to shoot "expensive" non-toxic shot that would be full choke safe.

Can I buy a replacement barrel for it so he can use it? Is it interchangeable with a Mossberg 500?

I'd love to surprise him and watch him shoot his favorite again this upcoming goose season.

I'm pretty sure a Model 500 barrel will fit ok.

Absolutely. I've switched a bunch of those barrels. They are the same guns.

I would try a WTB ad in the EE. 28" seems to be the most common size nowadays for a hunting barrel. Many guys buy the '3 barrel 500' and may have a spare barrel to sell, I'd try that and see what happens.
