Hello all,

I'm troubled because of the inconsistencies in my homework.

Simply put:
I have recently acquired a Lakefield Mossberg Mark 1 rifle, single shot, bolt action rifle. I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, but is cycles and ejects as it should.

It CLEARLY says 'Mark I', however the chamber reveals a rectangular cut that you would expect for a mag well on a 'Mark II' type rifle.
However the parts diagrams I've found show a solid base in the receiver (less a mounting hole).
One CGN'er messaged me with picks of a same-model rifle which offered a metal ramp that appeared to compress under the bolt when being closed, but finding a name or part number for this phantom part is testing my wits.

Prepared to sell this to someone who cares if i don't get any luck soon to correct the issue.

Mark I single shot, bolt action .....

Lakefield Mossberg .....

The chamber the bolt locks into .....

Part number 4 doesn't work as this Mark I diagram shows a Solid Bottom Receiver ?!!?

The cut out 'well' in the bottom that has me stumped.
Is there supposed to be something here?
Or not?
ANY help is appreciated.

I don't know if this is much help to you, but I just happened to have my original Lakefield (not Lakefield Mossberg) Mark I next to me here and the bottom of the receiver is milled smooth and round, continuous with the receiver.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why wouldn't part #4 be exactly what you're looking for? If the barrel/action picture is a side view, you wouldn't see the cut out.

To be honest, a feed ramp like the one you describe would help my rifle a lot. I find individually ramming tiny and delicate 22LR cartridges into the chamber fussy and awkward with that tiny opening.

..... but why wouldn't part #4 be exactly what you're looking for? .....

Part number 4 is a feed ramp that mounts into a hole in the bottom of the receiver via a peg in the bottom of the ramp.

My Lakefield offers a large rectangular hole that looks like it was designed to accommodate a magazine (thought the hole is only in the receiver, the stock doesn't have the same trait).

There's nothing I've found that offers this layout OR a fix for it.

Additionally, I can't even confirm that there IS supposed to be something there. Never knew it could be so hard to find a pic on the net that offered a bolt, in the open position, with a view of the chamber and a (possible) feed ramp.

I have the same rifle. It was a gift for my 14th birthday (which was a long time ago). The piece you are missing is the feed ramp. It bolts on to the bottom of the receiver and allows the user to drop the cartridge on the ramp for easy loading.

I will take a shot at loading pictures.
