just wondering what one of these is worth, 12ga, shot about 10 times... got it from my father, and he has had it since new

its in almost mint condition, you cant even see any wear on the pump or anything, nor the trigger or the stock

Thanks in advance, and its a 500 model

You would be lucky to get 200 for it. A guy had a brand new mavrick 88 on here last week for 200 in synthetic stocks. I picked up a mossberg 500 with packing grease still in it for $125 about 8 months ago.

There great guns just there is so many of them. The older ones like the 500A were nicknamed "the rattletrap" because of the forend would rattle on the mag tube. Just the competition with the 870 is what brought them down. The mossbergs have aluminum receivers and plastic trigger mechs. Just the quality against the 870 and the amount of modds for the 870 have lowered there value.

this one is a 500ab... and been about 15 years since i shot it, one of the few times it was ever shot...

just wondering if its worth keeping or selling for something else... any opinions?

You said you got it from your father so it all depends if it has any sentimental value becuse you aren't going to get big bucks for it. Also if it works, why do you want to get rid of it?

i dont know if i want too or not... i dont normally shoot shot guns, so this is just something diff to have

just didnt know if its a good solid gun to keep, or worth buying something else... thats all, just general feedback, if we take the sentiment out of it

The 500 AB was when Mossberg actually made the 500 better. The new ones are great but your older 500 has a little more class and a little more time taken in it's final fit and finish. Great gun keep it and use it good health.

That is a great gun, and will handle more rounds of ammo than you will ever want to put through it. The 870 Wingmaster, not the crappy "express" 870's they make now is a better gun, quality wise. But the 500 is favoured by many because of the fit and the ambidextrous safety. The 870 is the best selling pump shotgun in the history of the universe. The Mossberg 500 is number two. Keep it and use it. But if you do sell it, don't expect to get more than $200 for it.
FWIW, I have owned Mossberg 500's, 870 Wingmasters, and an 870 Express. The only one of those that I still have is the 500 (although I should have kept one of the Wingmasters).

thanks for the reply guys... i was looking at a tactical shotgun, thinking it would be more enjoyable, but from what i've read and heard here as well...this is a very well made gun, and should be kept and enjoyed

Thanks again all
