I recently acquired at auction an older(?) Lakefield S-L-LR Mark 1,

I am just curious to find out anything about it that I can, am I correct that this is/was now a gun produced by Savage? I sadly do not have permission to post pictures, otherwise I would.

I believe it’s a model 64 and Savage still makes it today. It was the last gun that was designed by HW Cooey before he passed and was introduced roughly the same time as the Ruger 10/22. Good article here about Cooey’s and Lakefield here

The Lakefield 64B is a semi-auto, while the rifle in question, a Lakefield Mark I, is a single shot bolt action rifle.

Someone added a scope aftermarket, and then tossed the original sight. I recently bought a new sight from Numerich, I'm hoping to take it back as much to original as I can.

This is the most recent photo I have of the Lakefield, I'm awaiting a new sight in the mail and I'll try to post a picture of it complete and cleaned up when I can do so. I haven't fired it yet, but I am hoping I'll get the chance to do so this weekend.

Wow...that gun has been around the block, though the wood looks to be in very good condition for a gun that has no finish left on the metal. Doesn't mean it won't shoot well. Was the bluing polished-off or something, or do you think that's regular wear-and-tear? Would be curious to see what the underside of the barrel/receiver looks like. (ie, does it have it's original, unscathed finish?) If not, someone clearly had plans on refinishing and maybe gave-up part way in..? I don't know enough about these to know whether or not that stock is the same age as the barrel/receiver...but if that's honest wear on the metal, I have to wonder if the original stock got chucked...and that's a newer one on there.

I had a TR match stock version 25” bull barrel with peeps. Super accurate single shot.

It would appear that someone over the course of time removed the blueing. The stock appears to be original, but I’ll check to see for sure. Not a bad deal overall.
