Well my hunting season ended after hunting for only about 1/2 an hour at my Uncle's place in the Lanark Highlands. Spotted this nice 8 pointer while still hunting through the sugar bush. Dropped him on the spot with a 130gr Barnes TSX .270 handload from about 50 yards. Bullet impacted on the neck, & took out the spine. I was very impressed by the performance of the TSX bullet. Tiny entry hole, massive exit wound. Best of luck to everyone else who still haven't filled their tags.

Congrats on the deer Glang.
Any deer taken cleanly is a great accomplishment. That one is a beauty

shootin deer around Lanark is something like fish in a barrel...or deer in PEC. Still a bad day huntin is better than a good day at work!!

That depends actually. In some areas the land owners have been going to town on the deer. Farmer I talked to was telling me of a stack of 20+ deer just rotting.

Last year was really sparse compared to the one before. This year s a little better but no where like it was a few years ago.

Exactly my experience. 2004 was fantastic, 2005 and 2006 were just ok, this year is better, but not 2004.

Hmmmm. IMHO there are more deer in the area of the Highlands that I hunt than ever before. Maybe less hunting pressure in my area. My Uncle farm is 250 acres & there are scrapes everywhere. I have been driving there from Ottawa for the past 20 years & have never seen as many deer in the fields & crossing the roads. Could be different in your area. Many turkey also which makes me happy. Great to see these birds making a comeback in this area. Mild Winters have also made the difference.

Beautiful whitetail! :)

Some good eatinz you got there, nice shot. Way I would have done it myself. No meat waste, quick and clean kill.

I am liking those TSX rounds. Makes me wanna pick up a .270 :D
Congrats

It does vary by area and year for sure... there was a bit of a 'cull' a few years back if you guys recall.

Nice one there Glang!

deer

hey George

Sean here.........nice deer ..your becoming quite the deer hunter.
I called you the week before last for a goose hunt but got no answer, didn't leave a message. We'll try again. I did quite well last week and will post a pic soon.

again congrats on another nice whitetail.

Nice deer, George. What cartridge?

I hunt with a bolt action Savage in .270 WIN. Great gun & very accurate also. It has a cheap Simmons scope on it, but I have never had any problems with it over the years. Approx. 200 rounds through it so far. I am considering replacing it with something higher end, but it works for now.
