Not sure if this is offside, but wondering anyone living in the lower main land tri cities area has these that I could use. Don't see myself needing to do this again anytime soon. So it is tough to justify the 50$ kit from midway. Pm me if ur interested in a deal for a small one time fee.

Or simply keep a lookout for a set of Burris Signature rings that fit your bases and then you have rings that dont need lapping/won't mar/won't slip/correct alignment if necessary
vs risking opening your existing rings up too much to grip the scope tube properly...

True didn't think of that.
Lol just the barrel, sadly no, this is my first centre fire rifle for my first big game hunt. I've put a savage stainless action, a leupold vx2 from the EE and a Boyds thumbhole laminate together. Hoping they jive nicely. Informatory unfortunately I already have my rings and just wanted to make sure they fit perfect. Leupold prw's. Would I be wise to steer clear lapping them myself?

Well - if not done properly it can create more problems than less; .

Burris Signature rings (eg the ones with the inserts) are simply a "Better Idea"

If you are on a budget and using a one piece base ... it is very possible that you dont need to lap ... folks didnt for many years ....

(with 2 piece bases - if you suspect misalignment - you could try reversing/changing position of the bases and/or rings if thats possible)

It is a two piece system. I just don't have $ to use a smith, but don't want to risk damaging the scope or denting the tube. Not sure how tight to torque the ring tops on either. don't want to be too ambitious , but I like doing things myself. So I turn to you guys with the experience.

Already have leupold Prw rings. If the Burris are out of alignment how do you solve the problem?
For the prw's you tighten the tops flush to the bottom?

Guntech pointed out it only cost like $20 to get it done it will cost more than that for a box of ammo.

Price i'm hearing is 50$ it costs that for the kit to do it yourself from midway. Already have rounds and am out of dough. So I need to borrow tools. Also my bro fabbed some alignment rods for me so now I know my rings are out front to back! Just need to be able to fix it for cheap.

Go to a steel supply place with your calipers and buy a foot of 1" bar stock. Cold rolled is a nominal dimension and is a little over size, but stainless is bang on and I believe drill-rod is too if I remember correctly. Valve compound is about 3 bucks.

perhaps you could ask him to make another one of those alignment rods 12" long and you should be able to do as Dogleg suggests...in order to determine the rings are out of alignment now the rods would be 1" dia. I presume. Course if they are badly out of alignment - lapping one (or the other) will ultimately result in oval rings.
