Does anyone have experience shooting the hollow point cutting edge bullets ? I purchased 500 and so far they have been a big disappointment. I have Kreiger and Bartlein MTU barrels in 223 Rem 1/12 twist. Does this bullet have any quirks ? Close, jammed, far from the lands? I see this bullet has been dropped from the Lapua website. My favorite bullet is the 53 gr VMax, followed by the 50 gr Vmax. Thanks in advance.

I tried a couple of the cheap varmint style bullets this year.
Hornady 55gr soft point jacketed .224 bullet. These were awesome on gophers and shot sub MOA in my 20" 7"twist Ruger Precision Rifle 223.
Speer 52gr 'double hollow point' (deep hollow point) jacketed .224 bullet. These were good, but not as good as the Hornady soft points on gophers. Shot about 1 MOA in the same gun.

Speer, do you mean Calhoon? I just checked but couldn't find any Speer DBL HP I'm interested in trying out them out especially the Calhoon DBL HP .224 version. Calhoon in Montana makes a double hollow points for various calibers but I have been unable to locate any for sale in Canada. Maybe you know where to find some since you mentioned using double hollow point .224 bullets?

I bought the Hornady 55gr hollow point from North Pro Sports here in Saskatoon. At the time they had plastic bags of 100 quantity.

By the way OP I've never tried the hollow point cutting edge bullets you mentioned. As everyone knows there's lots of great .224 bullets out there including the 50 and 53gr Vmax and I still have a good supply of those to shoot at the range but for hunting the Speer 52gr hp, the Speer Varmint Hollow Point, the bullet with the large hollow point is the best shooter and performer for me out of both my 223 and 22-250, and the price is right compared to the other good options. Consider giving them a try.

I agree the Hornady 55gr. sp bulk bullets are also a good deal and they're very good not just for the range but for hunting as well with or without a cannelure. Also I've used a lot of the Hornady spsx bullets out of my 223, I would also highly recommend them as well along with the standard Hornady soft points. You don't need to buy an expensive bullet to get a good shooting bullet.
