i hear the name being thrown around quite a bit. i did some googleing on it and came across the official site but didnt see what i was looking for other than it comes in many different calibers. is lapua ammo specific to guns that will take lapua ammo, or can it be fed into any gun as long as its the right caliber?

Lapua makes a wide range of ammunition in various chamberings. It does not matter who makes the gun.

No different than Winchester, Federal, Remington, Norma, RWS.......etc.

Laupa has a reputation for making high quality, accurate bullets, brass and loaded ammunition. They make a wide range from hunting to target.

Most precision shooters load their own thought. More cost effective, can taylor a load to a firearm for increase accuracy/velocity, FUN!!!!

Some years ago I bought a couple of hundred rounds of Lapua .308 Winchester military match. I had lost all my gear in a house fire and hadn't got myself set up to handload before I reacquired a good rifle and wanted to get shooting again. By weight this stuff was incredible, each round was almost a clone of the next, virtually identical in wight and dimension. As one might expect, it shot like a house on fire from a factory barrel. I was a fan of everything but the price, which encouraged me to replace my loading bench as quickly as was prudent. I still have some of that brass which is distinctive from the regular Lapua brass because the primers were stabbed in place.

Hirsch sells it as does RSU in Kamloops.

I know the 308 shoots like a house on fire, which is also a testament to how tolerant 308's can be and can work very well with little tweaking.

I have seen the 6BR stuff used and it was nothing to write home about. I understand they make 6.5X47 too.

I dunno... you can buy 6 boxes of that stuff, or spend the same money on a reloading kit.

No kidding. I can't believe the price on match ammo.

Reloading is key to good shooting.

damn thats pricey. i might get a box just to say ive tried it but if the cost of the 308 stuff is any indictation of what the 30-06 is then its double the price. the wife said shes gonna buy me some reloading goodies for either my birthday or christmas. the stuff seems very confusing so ill get to reading on it or hopefully find someone who can help me set my gear up properly :)

thanks for the replies guys

Buy your self a realoding manual and read it a few times before you bother buying things.

One thing to remember if you want to get into the long range game then you should just buy quality reloading tools right of the bat. I have doubles of almost everything now.

yeah i hear that. im ready to buy another scope and i want to go 20x but might aswell spend the money and get something a little more powerful, make reaching out and crushing my target a bit easier :)

Lapua is just a very high priced ammo maker.
"...reaching out and crushing my target a bit easier..." A 20X scope is too much for a .308 or a .30-06. A scope will not make a rifle that doesn't already shoot weel more accurate either. They only allow you to see the target better.
"...get to reading on it..." Buy a copy of The ABC's of Reloading. Read it then ask any questions you have on the reloading forum.

God forbid anyone from placing an 8-32 or a 12-42 power scope on a rifle. Or the ultimate sin a straight 36 power.

Lapua ammo is priced competively and has set world records in CISM and other world championsips with 6mmBR, 6.5X47 Lapua and .308 Win.. We do recommend handloading and started selling Lapua components in 1995.

uchi lots of magnification is certainly a lot more reassuring when you are trying to shoot extremely precisely.

After you master shooting consistent tight groups with a 20X+ scope, you might be surprised at just how well you are able to shoot with a 4X or 6X scope. You'd swear from the sight picture that there's no possible way you are able to aim any better than within a few inches at 100 yards, and yet when you see your groups you will realize that you are actually able to do much much better than that.

But, a nice high magnification high quality target scope will help you to more quickly learn how to shoot well. Definitely recommended.

definatly. ive been out 4 times with my rifle and my groups are getting better and better. i was out with dg photography today and he buried 4 rounds into the same hole at 100y like it was nothing. just shows what a little practice and what a good machine can do. hell i even did pretty good with his canon, he figures it was around a half inch group at 200y, first time shooting his gun thats where my 3 landed. i was happy with it. id like more magnification just to be able to aim a little more precisely. right now its just aiming at a 4 square inch group at 200y and its a tiny dot in the scope. where are with his scope it was much closer and i feel i was that much more accurate due to it. i did find today that my scope will need upgrading sooner than later. when i returned it to my 100y zero it was shooting about an inch low, put two into the 100y target and they were both low. and to go from 100y to 200y took 17 clicks. scope does 1/4 moa clicks. that just seems like too much. works out to like 8.5 inch adjustment which there is no way the gun is dropping that much from 100y to 200y. so i think the scope just isnt giving me true 1/4moa adjustments
