I cleaned and polished with gray scotch-bright pads wound around an Ioso plastic bore brush in a drill press both the die and expander. The 6.5 X 55 brass was tumbled in new drum with STM and there were a lot of brass speckles where the gaskets come together. After the tumbling, rinsing and drying they sized "just like new". The case mouth is rough on this brass. I hope the brass isn't over-annealed.
 
Whatever the issue, it sounds like you have it sorted. Just strange that so many are having the same issue.

Obviously Lapua has changed something in their production line as this is the first brass I have ever had this problem with and I necked down 400 308 brass to 260 not too long ago from the cardboard Gold boxes and have never had an issue with 6BR brass from the cardboard boxes either.

Unless you are sizing or expanding the neck before firing the brass you probably would not see any difference.

Maybe the .308 is made using a different process.....who knows.
 
Lapua Brass Issues

It was a chore getting the last box of Lapua 6.5X55 brass through neck size die. Finally threw them in a tumbler and cleaned them. That worked great. So I did the same with new Lapua 308 Palma brass. No troubles, cleans up the flakes so they run in and out of neck die with no problems. However, when I set cartridges out in trays to prime there are 99 6.5X55 and 97 308 Palma. Sweet!
 
Strange. I had a buddy drop of some brand new lapua brass in the blue box for me to do some load testing for his rifle and after sizing the necks I see that I have the very same problem. It is strange!
 
There has been such complaints let alone substantiation on the "issue" to us as the official Lapua distributor in Canada.

You should return any brass which you feel has issues to the place from which you boughy it.
 
Interesting. So I went and dug out some old Lapua brass that I've had for at least 10 years and guess what. Same galling around the neck. So I'm using an rcbs fl sizing die. What are those that are having the same issue using? It doesn't seem to have the same issue when I use Norma brass. Wonder if its just a die issue?
 
Haha #### now its galling my Norma cases on the neck too where it never has before. Hope I didnt screw the die up but I dont see how brass could scratch steel like that?

Just pull the die apart and polish with Scotch-Brite. Die will be alright. I've been loading for more than 40 years and never had brass problems like this. Tumbling in STM got rid of grit in case mouth and they were fine after that.
