Lapua brass

Personal preferance, some fl size and more some load and shoot. I load and shoot.

Load half the box with no prep and load half the box with prep and let us know what you think.

You might want to iron out the dented case mouths with a mandrel or expander at the very least. Even Lapua cases get dinged in shipping... ;)

Not to argue with Peter, but I've found dented case mouths on a couple of my new Lapua brass. I just neck size them all, then load.

i just got 200 223 brass and just ran them through a neck sizer to round the necks out and make it easier to seat the bullets. done this with the last five batches of lapua brass i have received never had a problem with this method

My experience over 15 years of loading and selling Laopua brass to our top shooters is that no prep. is required.

Peter

I go a little crazy with new Lapua. Resize, trim, expand and neck turn, chamfer, flash hole debur, primer pocket uniform, and finally I ream the flash holes. This is a little much, but I want every piece identicle to the best of my ability. Some might consider a waste of time but thats just my $0.02

You do your the brass the way it has to be done to be consitant for match shooting, really not neaded for hunting loads.but if your shooting 900m with 223 rem and want to keep your verticale good you have to prep the brass the way you do, and weighing your powder is critical 1/10 gr +or- can make up to minute in elevation not so bad in .308 more like 4 or 5" and with new size of F class targets you can be out of bull ease, your way you have very good chance of getting you E/S in single didgits

I have found Lapua brass and other brass the base where stamping is needs a little trimming some are bad, also some lapua brass I don't use I set aside and use it in my varmint gun, you will see small dish shape near flash hole after uniforming pockets, I did some winchester brass last year for my 222 rem, ones with flash hole off center, culled and some had brass chunks so big I could not remove with inside primer pocket trimmer,,and some necks where way out and could not neck turn properly to thin on one side Think I got 81 out of 100 that where usable. The lapua brass is still way ahead of any brass out there, necks are thicker and last much longer as well primer pockets don't loosen up like Federal, and others.
Including Nosler custom its way overated.

Just called Alain Marion, who advised that his preperation of Lapua brass is weighing only. Alain is the most successful longrange shooter in Canadian history. He has not discarded any Lapua cases, only segregated by weight. There are many other top shooters who do the same and win at 1000.

Do more if it makes you feel better.

Every processing step that you perform either adds or reduces variation. With a lot of those steps there is no way to effectivly measure to determine that you have reduced variation. Using a standard die i found that neck sizing actually made neck run out much worse that they came from the factory. Using a collet die it remained the about the same. In my opinion it is best to do as little as possible with Lapua.

I just bought some .308win Lapua Brass (Lot P00423504). I measured the OAL of the brass using a digital caliper. For the most part, the OAL ranged from 2.008 to 2.014. However, about 10% of the cases measured 2.016 to 2.019. Also, some of the necks are dinged and will need to be resized. Is this normal for Lapua Brass or did I get a bad batch? It looks like I need to at least neck resize and trim to length 2.005? Thanks.

Cannot the bullet being seated straighten out any "dings". Haven't seen this much variation in length, but they would be fine to shoot.
