How am I supposed to join the mags with the LAR15 couplers? how do I remove the mag bottom plate? I am afraid to bend/distort the mag.

Also, it seems kinda retarded to me that using the couplers, one mag fill face down with ammo pointing down?

Are those couplers pointless? Should I just keep the 6 mags separate?
 
The couplers work great for holding 20rds. Yes the bottom mag points down but nothing falls out. To get the coupler in, you have to bend the one end of the regular floorplate a bit and slide it. Be sure to hold your hand over the bottom to hold the spring in. It's a tight one. Once the floorplate is off, slide the coupler on and repeat for the 2nd mag.

Flip the mag upside down, looking at the bottom. Near the back edge of the mag plate you will see a hole. Insert a screw driver and lift up slightly, pushing the mag plate forward as you do. On the inside surface of the mag there are two dimples that need to be lifted to clear the front edge of the mag. Once they do, the mag base plate will slide forward. Once it is over these dimples, slowly slide it forward and watch for the spring to prevent it from snapping your fingers.

The couplers install the reverse way. If you have the new metal couplers, there is a allen head screw. Remove it then install the coupler between the two prepared mags. Replace the screw into the narrow end of the coupler. The screw keeps the mags and coupler from sliding back and forth.

Not sure if the plastic older couplers have the same screw or not, I only have the new metal ones.

True marksmanship includes handling skills. Moving, shooting, and weapon manipulation is just as important, if not a part of, overall accuracy. More so with a black rifle, as that is the whole point of them.

If you are using LAR mags for 3 gun or such, mag couplers might be something you want to train with.

Ok, yeah, I forgot about 3-gun matches and the such. Sucks to be a member of a range thats unwilling to host 3-gun matches.
 
EDIT:

questar sells the polymer couplers.

I think they are brittle... be careful when you push them in or they will break.

Those plastic couplers are damn cheap though, and I broke 2 pieces just installing 3 couplers.

Kinda junk to me. I though the new ones were metal. I just ordered those and got flimsy plastic....

Oh well, I might keep the couplers for the look, or maybe not. I'll see.

The new ones are metal. Solid and no play with the set screw on the narrow front edge of the coupler holding the mags from sliding forward.

when your licensing only allows you to use short mags, because 5/30's are dangerous items.. the Mag couplers allow you to manipulate the joint mags, like a full size magazine

or if you want to use the 10 round LAR mags, again, it allows you to manipulate them like a full size mag, if you use a vest/pouch/other retention device ...

the wedge shape couplers make a lot of sense for neutered mags
